Re: New spy photos of new, bigger H2 SUT

Nope to the 6.6 Dmax, the rear pumpkin isn't correct for the rating of the engine. However, there might be the 4.5 in it.
Probably the GMT900 'Burb frame, body lifted to fit the 35's.

I'd like to see them have an *actual* 3/4 ton frame and running gear, namely a decent transmission.

As long as the weight is heavy enough, it won't affect their CAFE standards if I recall, so this would be an awkward but good step for them.

Re: New spy photos of new, bigger H2 SUT

This makes a lot more sence than the current model. Hummer's version of the Chevy Avalanche. It is certain to sell well and gives Hummer its first real truck I hope GM will finally offer the Duramax Diesels in H2. It would certainly help the mileage. I'm really liking the way the Chamoflage paint looks on the H2.

Let me ask you something. Would gm be better off if they had Prius to improve their image or if they have big H2 hummer to improve their image. Think about how many sales toyout gained because of Priues and how many sales gm lost because of hummer? And how much gm reputation has suffer because of hummer and how much toyota reputation has improved because of Priues. It looks like Prius is running over Hummer.

Look how much bad publicity gm will get over this hummer and how much bad publicity they had over current hummers. Time to move away from this devision.
hummer just has an image problem. they are slowly making the right moves toward the right direction, it's just going to take a while. they pollute the air no more than most other suvs, gm or not.

You buy the H2. GM gets maybe $10,000 profit from it. You love your H2. No problem, right?

Wrong. You drive your H2 on the highway, and 500 different people see it. Maybe some like it. But lots of those people don't like it. They find out that General Motors makes it, and it gets 8 miles per gallon. So they next time they buy a vehicle, they get a Honda Civic, or a Toyota Camry, or a Mitsubishi Outlander.

Before you know it, selling you that H2 made $10,000 for GM and $50,000 for Toyota.

Image matters. GM has every right to make Hummers and you have every right to buy one. But I bet GM is losing more Pontiac, Buick, Saturn, Chevrolet, and Cadillac sales because of Hummer than it is getting in Hummer sales.

At the risk of cannabalizing Avalanche sales (which I think it won't) this is a good move for Hummer to diversify its line and appeal to truck owners. Jeep has waited too long to do this (having not offered a truck since the Commanche in the early 90s) and it would have been a better move than the crossover explosion happening now.

Last I heard, the HUMVEE was being replaced soon and NOT by another Hummer product...apparently Hummer is not providing a replacement vehicle for consideration.

With that paintjob and wheels it looks absolutely killer.

Variants of existing models is what will make HUMMER not the continued introduction of new models. Sticking with HUMMER's military heritage and image would also be best.

It's one of GM's only strong brands and they could easily destroy that.

I like the paint. I like the fact that it looks like a Hummer should look--rugged and capable. But the H2 crowd seems more interested in big wheels and chrome, chrome, chrome and I don't think there's going to be much demand for the bigger bed--I mean if you want a "real" truck you're probably just going to get a real truck. I think they need to go small and truly rugged fast before the fad and their image wears.

You missed my point entirely. I don't care what others want to drive. They can buy what they want. If I want to buy a Hummer I will buy one. I don't need/want or care about anyone else's opinion of what I drive.

Besides, your theory that someone might see a Hummer on the road and think to themselves "I'll show that dang Hummer driver a thing or two and I'll buy a Hondoyotonissan whatever" is about the most convoluted logic I have ever heard. If someone is thinking like that they need to get a new hobby because that is just wrong!

As I said before, you can buy whatever you want, I'll buy whatever I want.

Re: New spy photos of new, bigger H2 SUT

I doubt it's for the military. There are less costly alternatives than using an H2.

I like the longer bed. The current H2 SUT bed is nearly useless. I'd even suggest keeping the size and weight down by doing a simpler 2-door proper H2 pickup. I'd consider buying one of those since I don't like the styling of the current Silverado or Sierra.

You're eyesight is better than mine if you can see the diff in those pics! You're right that this isn't the HD running gear, since it only has 6-lug wheels.

This could actually a military concept, but my wild-a$$ guess is a HYBRID transmission and possibly a 4.5 diesel (since the military only runs diesel). The military is looking at hybrids as much as for stealth as economy. They're not interested in fast highway speeds, so they could gear these for towing and get away with the smaller engine. If a hybrid could be used for power generation, the military applications are further increased. What doesn't make sense for the military is a light-duty suspension, but since the GM HD suspension is basically a bolt-in, I could see a test mule running around with a regular suspension.

That's fine. I agree, it doesn't matter whether I love the H2 or hate it, if you bought it and you like it, you would be stupid to lose sleep over what I think.

Not, "I'll show that Hummer driver a thing or two!"
Instead, "Boy, GM must not give a damn about the environment. I'll buy a car from an automaker that does."

Toyota doesn't care about the environment any more than GM does. Both companies care about profits. But Toyota has a very 'green friendly' image that is part of the reason they have $10 billion in annual profits. GM doesn't have that kind of image, and Hummer is a big reason why. (Of course, the new Tundra is finally big and in-your-face enough to get the attention of some truck enthusiasts and the hatred of environmentalists.)
