Re: New GM Trucks Gain Traction Against Competitors In Slippery Market

I don't see too many on the roads, but I figure it's because of the high amount of GMT-400 trucks I see driving around (like mine). I rarely see anything FORD pickup older than 97.

GO GM!!!

Re: New GM Trucks Gain Traction Against Competitors In Slippery Market

Did anybody else notice that the article said once the 6-spd autos hit that the 6.0 was gone in favor of the 6.2???

If that happens, then I will definetely be signing the papers and trading my 06 Sierra.

Re: New GM Trucks Gain Traction Against Competitors In Slippery Market

Just bought a new Silverado 1500, ECSB 4.8 2wd, couldn't be more impressed with a new vehicle. It's the most solid vehicle I think I've ever driven. NO squeaks, rattles or groans, not bad for a basic truck (WT with LS appearance package). Cloth seats and rubber floor mat... no carpet. Gotta watch the tach to make sure it's running, it's that smooth.

Knocking off close to 20 MPG, gonna let it break in a bit before I really get to calculating. Went 376 miles on less than 3/4 tank, A/C on the whole time. Almost 600 on it now.

I like the WT dash, second glovebox is a neat touch. Feels much wider than my 02 K2500HD, need to get the tape out and check.

I would bet that nearly half of GMC owners feel the way you do. But there is no worry of GM dumping the GMC name plate. They are smart enough to know they would lose huge numbers if they did something that blatantly stupid. Afterall, they lost hords of buyers when they dumped Oldsmobile, and even thou they were losing money with Olds, I am sure they now see it would have been smart to try and work through the hard times.
With GMC, they make big dollars on every sale, so why would they want to lose that?

Re: New GM Trucks Gain Traction Against Competitors In Slippery Market

"There’s no plan for GM to offer a dual mode hybrid HD pickup to help obtain improved fuel economy in the 2500 and 3500 models. Only a light duty hybrid will go on sale, by the end of calendar year 2008. But some hybrid technology will still trickle out to trucks with traditional internal combustion powertrains."

oh well. will the 1500 only be a gas hybrid? or will there be a diesel hybrid for the 1500?

"And as six-speed gearboxes deploy, the 367-horsepower / 375 lb-ft 6.0-liter Vortec Max V8 will be retired and replaced with the 403-hp / 417 lb-ft 6.2-liter Vortec V8 across the entire light duty lineup. Today it’s only found in the Sierra Denali. The 6.2 is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 currently available in the half-ton segment."

nice.

Re: New GM Trucks Gain Traction Against Competitors In Slippery Market

So they're going to retire the 6.0 engine that makes 367 HP using regular with the 6.2 which needs premium to get to 403 HP. Now if you redundancy, it will be the Sierra Denali. What in the Denali after this change justifies the price?

Re: New GM Trucks Gain Traction Against Competitors In Slippery Market

When is this change over supposed to occur?

I'm about to buy a 2007 Vmax extended cab Silverado 4x4 but will definitely hold off if I can factory order a 6.2L one. If it's coming out later in 2008 I'll just use the knowledge to negotiate further on a soon to be obsolete drivetrain.

A big reasom why there are not many 93 and older Dodge full size pickups, are due to the fact that the Dodge pickup nearly went extinct before the big style change for 1994 model year. They were selling fewwer then what the honda ridgeline sales now. If memory serves me correctly, Dodge sold about 38,000 in 1992, and about 10 times that number in 1994.

Good to see the Silverado doing so well that it's out selling the F-150

Hate to see the Tundra out sell the F-150...I'm sure it won't for a long time, but who knows.

hdmax, please change you avatar. That "thing" is burned in my mind! lol j/k

There's more to the Denali than the 6.2L. The GMT-800 Denali used the same ol' 6.0L found in the 1500HD and the VortecMAX 1500s that debuted in '06.

I just hope they get the 6-Speed right. I haven't driven the 6L90 yet but the 6T75 drives me nuts at times.

Great News!!

I must say, for the first time in almost 2 decades I like the Sierra's looks better than the Silverado.

I liked the previous GMT 800 styling on the GMC's better. I bought in 2003 and that squinting headlight look on the Chevy's almost made me puke. Dare I say Tundra ugly? The 99-02 look was basic but fine with me. I ended up buying a GMC. I really like the new GMC's. Like most truck buyers I like a basic conservative look.

But, that was the "old" GM where they get people to buy more expensive products for no reason at all. What justified the price for people to buy the Denali? The grill? Or is does it all come down to image?

With "new" GM's focus on product differentiation, I thought they would make the Denali's price more justified by keeping the 6.2 exclusive to the Denali. Maybe all I can hope for now is A) the 6.2 that will go into the reg 1/2 tons can run on regular and still make the 403 HP and 417 lb of torque B) The Denali and Escalade sees a HP bump to somewhere like 420-430 HP from there 6.2.
