New GM Trucks Gain Traction Against Competitors In Slippery Market

Found this article and did not see it on the forums, so hopefully this is not a repost. In the article it also talks about future engine, transmission and other fuel effcient options..

“We’re off to a very good start with the new pickups. This year we lead the full size category by 100,000 units,” says Mr. Ballew, based on combined sales of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light and heavy duty trucks plus Chevrolet Avalanche, which has sold 60,000 units year to date. The increased sales numbers have also bumped up GM’s overall portion of the full size market by almost 3 points in 2007, to around 41%. In May its share was even higher, at 43.1%. Chevrolet Silverado also outsold the perennial bestseller, Ford’s F-150, last month, 63,790 units to 61,939 units. Mr. Ballew says the automaker will be happy with anything above 40% market share.

"GM’s on a roll with its big pickups. At this moment in time, I think they’re the best all-around light and heavy duty trucks you can buy for the money."

This is great news! GM truly has the best trucks out there! (Best looking too!!)

If I had the money I would be at a dealer right now buying myself one of these trucks!!

Suprisingly, I've seen a lot more new Silverado's and Sierra's here than Turda's - so far.

I'm anxiously waiting for a 6.2/6 spd Silverado. This article has renewed my hopes!

Chevy/GMC + whoop butt. There must be 1,000 of them driving around Baton Rouge. See 'em everywhere.

Re: New GM Trucks Gain Traction Against Competitors In Slippery Market

You mean to say that when GM pulls out all of the stops, puts aside all(!) of the excuses (manipulated yen, disagreeable UAW, healthcare burdens, anti-Detroit government, biased media, and on and on...) why it can't compete, and instead builds a vehicle that arguably leads its class it sees sales/share rise?! Come on!

Vehicles like this are the reason why I don't accept less than class-leading efforts in every market niche in which GM competes. The company can definitely do so when it sets its mind to the task.

And kudos to GM for its sales success!

Oh yeah baby..that's going to be the hammer. It will erase any advantage Toyota might have right now.

This is great news! Now if GM could only do that with its cars. I hope Malibu will be only the first step to that end.

See? If GMC was to go bye bye, then Chevy would have the #1 selling pickup.

GMC is so redundant.

Yet some people and markets prefer GMC to Chevy. California is one market where GMC is GM most popular brands. Redundant in your opinion is not good for sales or market share.

didn't it just say that the Silverado outsold the F-series last month?

GMC is the classy Chevy IMO

i second that. GM is capable of building best in class vehicles, they just don't always do it. we're seeing a turnaround with vehicles like the 900 trucks, the Saturn lineup, the upcoming Malibu, CTS, and so on. keep it up, GM, and you may just show Toyota a thing or two.
