Monroe Truck offers production version of Transformers' "Ironhide" GMC Topkick

Monroe Truck offers production version of Transformers' Ironhide
Posted Jul 6th 2007 4:57PM by Alex Nunez
Autoblog.com (Edmunds.com Inside Line)

Of all the GM rides playing Autobots in Transformers, one of the favorites around here is Ironhide (above), who rolls as a completely tricked GMC TopKick 6500 pickup truck when he's not kicking ass, taking names, and intimidating Chihuahuas as the Autobots' weapons specialist. Monroe Truck Equipment, which modifies rides like the TopKick for business owners, has partnered up with Hasbro to offer the ultimate adult Transformers toy: an exact Ironhide replica (minus the giant transforming robot element, of course).

Ironhide buyers get twin big-rig-style smokestacks, 20" black wheels wearing massive tires in lieu of the TopKick's standard dualies, custom, powder-coated front and rear bumpers, and a monster winch up front.

I have been wondering when someone would start doing these Ironhide conversions, but I thought that the 6500 series trucks only came in 2WD, the 45/5500's come with a driven front axle, but I thought above 6500's, rwd was the only option.

If you want to stand out here in Texas with a truly big truck, you're almost obligated to check this one out.

I've seen a few Monroe conversions on the road (with the regular pickup bed) and they make "HD" pickups look like little "girly man" vehicles as Arnold would put it. They even dwarf the Hummers. (And of course they could squash my wagon like a gnat).

Arnold would've loved that truck before he started listening to the voters out in Cali.

Seriously, how many people in the world have a need for this truck?

Ha, now I want the "need vs. want" Silverado HD and "I commute to work with my Suburban and have 3 full size trucks & SUV's in my driveway" guys to get out here and debate that statement.

Or is the TopKick even too much for them?

I can see some people having a need for it obviously, like to haul huge loads or whatever. But yeah, not many.

Loved this quote:

Quote:
As for the look of horror on Prius drivers' faces when you thunder by in this thing, well, that's an intangible that you can't put a value on.
Now all they need is a HUMMER conversion that looks like this and you can buy 3 of the vehicles that were in the movie today. (Just the Camaro unavailable)

roll up next to a greenie's Prius and say
"Thank you for going hybrid, I'm doing my fair share to compensate for your lack of gasoline use!"

I would get a huge kick outta doing that. but then again, I love trucks, the bigger they are, the better!!

But ya'll have to remember, that this is a 2007 Diesel. So, it wouldn't pollute as much as a past truck and would get decent mileage.

Most Medium work Trucks in Australia already do that, with their beds as long as a Coach Tour bus.

That HUMMER Looks a bit "girly man" as you put it, for a fire rescue vehicle.

Re: Monroe Truck offers production version of Transformers' "Ironhide" GMC Topkick

That truck is cool in the movie, but what would it be used for in real-life? It seems impractical, especially for towing because it is lifted, etc. I guess it would just be a large, off-roader?

I guess the kid in me wants to say 'cool!' but the realist, that considers such things as disadvantaged 3rd world countries and spoiled Americans, etc. thinks 'what a waste!' I don't know, I must be needing to leave for the weekend because I am clearly over thinking this one!!!

Before the thread descends into talking about Dolls Houses and make believe "trucks" with limited practical value.

From Western Australia..you should see the Tractor!!
