Middle East Only: GMC Terrain

Essentially, it's a rebadged version of the Saturn Vue, but for Mid-East markets.

Glad to see that GM is using proven products to flush out their lineup in other parts of the world. This is what "ONE GM" is supposed to do.

Kuwait City, Kuwait - GMC’s mantra of “Professional Grade” takes on a whole new meaning with the arrival of GMC’s first Compact SUV, the stylish Terrain. Having made its world debut earlier this month at the Dubai Motor Show, the all-new Terrain now makes its first appearance at the Kuwait International Automobile Exhibition 2007 (November 28th to December 4th).

A whole new wave of thinking has gone into creating the exciting new Terrain, which joins the SUV range with state-of-the-art engineering and high levels of quality, safety and comfort as its core DNA. It is the smallest member of the GMC family, but the professional grade philosophy is at the core of the newest model to make its entry in the region. This technologically sophisticated compact SUV, which will enter the Middle East market this year, is proficient for everyday use and equally capable of being used as a leisure vehicle.

At 4,575mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,704mm high, the GMC Terrain has all the credentials of a highly versatile Compact SUV, offering an ideal combination of practicality, performance and all the comfort of a lifestyle sedan. The Terrain features generous interior space, compact dimensions, high levels of functionality, a raised seat position and innovative transport features such as "Flex-Fix".

GMC’s Terrain combines dynamic, elegant design with an All Wheel Drive system that combines the benefits of front-wheel drive, such as stability control when accelerating and increased driving dynamics, with those of permanent four-wheel drive. The electronically-controlled electro-hydraulic differential ensures optimal torque distribution between the front and rear axles in all situations. The drivetrain is fully integrated with ABS and ESP systems, enhancing vehicle control and active safety.

Other standard functions include Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), Active Rollover Protection (ARP) and, unusually for the Compact segment, Descent Control System (DCS).

The new Terrain is available in SLE and SLT trims with two distinct powerplants. Furthermore, the Terrain’s appeal is enlivened by an eye-catching palette of colours such as Galaxy white; Granada black mica; Poseidon blue; Kadinsky red mica; Sandrift grey metallic; Dark denim grey mica; Oak green mica and Poly silver metallic.

Re: Middle East Only: GMC Terrain

I like it.

But that's because I liked the Saturn Vue. This would go better as a Chevy.

Why not sell Saturns around the world if they wanted to do this? It would be cool to visit Dubai or Germany or Australia (it would be RHD) and be able to rent the same car that I drive here in the states.

Re: Middle East Only: GMC Terrain

I didn't know GMC had a presence in the Middle East. I thought they would have gotten the Chevy Captiva if anything.

They wouldn't sell it as a Chevy b/c they already sell the Captiva -- which is essentially the same product with a 3rd row -- in key markets.

As for selling Saturn around the world, this wouldn't work as most Saturns are sold as Opels in most other markets. It wouldn't make sense.

This most likely will be the GMC we will see when Pontiac hands the Torrent over to them in 2010 or so.

Is it just me or does that GMC badge make it look tougher?

Yes.... yes it is!!!
Now... is Opel selling the Antara over there? That's the big question.

The G8 Sportwagon is a better Torrent replacement.

The idea GMC needs to peddle something like this in the US or inherit the slow-selling minivan and small SUV from Pontiac is a bad one.

There is supposed to be a GMC version of the next group of Theta products. The Torrent is slated to shift to GMC -- which isn't really a bad thing for dealers as most Pontiac dealerships are also GMC dealerships. It also would make more sense to add this product to GMC as it has a 'cultivated' image for SUVs that Pontiac lacks.

I don't know if this will be the EXACT product we'll see in 2010 mcali17, only b/c this particular product is already in existence in the US market as the Saturn Vue. So having a direct duplicate with just a GMC badge wouldn't make sense --- even if that is what GM has done with the Equinox/Torrent situation. That is certainly something that GM needs to avoid at all costs in the future.

Re: Middle East Only: GMC Terrain

That is really sharp with the GMC logo on the front! Wouldn't be too bad of a lil brother for the Acadia over here with a headlamp change and maybe some wider shoulders and hips.... hint hint wink wink

Or as some have said on here, a very nice Torrent replacement.
