Re: Lutz: GM Raising Incentives For August - T900 Pickups Will Get Boost

Around what time of this month is this sale going to happen? My mom was talking about getting a Silverado or Sierra for my dad.

I hope they put some additional rebates on the Colorado/Canyon. The best kept secret is the $500 rebate on the 08's. The 07's have just $2000. Is it really worth helping the dealers clear out the 07 Colorado/Canyon. These marginal trucks are overpriced as is.........give me a break!

It was only a matter of time with the Tundra out there.

It's hard to stick to your guns, isn't it GM?

Sad to see that this market is so competitive now and that price is going to hurt GM but probably will 0 effect on Toyota,

toyota will continue to toss cash, their main goal is to be #1 by any means necessary, GM just has to follow remember toyota has to please the media.

GM already has 60 months 0% on the 07 full size trucks. What more are they going to do now?

This is discouraging for me as a GM fan. Toyota, with sales of 200K units in a 2,400K full sized pickup truck market is dictating pricing for full size trucks. It sounds like Toyota is winning this battle.

There's nothing wrong with the 4 speeds though. We got a 2500HD and I see nothing wrong with the transmission. Shifts are very smooth... What more do you want? And I don't think 2 more speeds will reduce the gas mileage by a lot.

Red face Re: Lutz: GM Raising Incentives For August - T900 Pickups Will Get Boost

I say......Colorados are marginal! I bought a 2004 Z-71 4X4 Extended Cab. The truck has poor styling, a cheap interior, and very average performance. I shakes and rolls. Luckily, the only problem I have had is with front end alignment. At 16,000 miles, mostly highway, I had to replace a tie-rod end. The General tires are nearly worn out. My friend bought an identical truck at the same time and had engine/valve/head problems and the same issue with tires and alignment. He now drives a Nissan...........
After owning eight S-10 extended cabs, the Colorado isn't a great improvement. And what really gripes me is the fact that you can't get good on-off road tires on the standard Colorado 4X4. Chevy forces you to get the Z-71 that is impossible for my wife to board unless I buy the $525.00 chrome side-step option. I never ever had to put running boards on my S-10 and they could be purchased with the 235-75-15 off road tires.
A new Colorado doesn't get much better mileage than a full size V-8 and with rebates on a full size the cost is not far off on the full size.
If I trade my truck for an 0-7, I'm basically buying a different color, a 3.7 engine that probably uses more fuel. What has GM done to improve this truck.....nothing.
I owned over 100 cars and trucks in the past 40 years, the Colorado is no winner, just an average truck.

I hear you loud and clear... I won't be happy until I can get a 6.2 and the 6 speed in a regular cab short bed... But I think Matamoros, Mexico will have 6 inches of snow in August before that happens.

I think the 4 speed is fine for me, but if the 6 is available why not offer it in all configurations? Why make 2 different transmissions for the same truck? Maybe GM has a huge warehouse full of 4 speeds lying around.

You cite:

1) poor styling
2) cheap interior
3) avg performance
4) 235/75/on-off road tires n/a (400-500 aftermarket option for good tires ne ways, and i agree, the generals are crap)

But, based off of items 1-3, why'd you buy one in the first place if you thought it had poor styling, cheap interior and avg performance?

And btw, I believe the 3.7L gets the same or better mpg than the previous 3.5L w/ 20 more horse and torque

I agree. I generally don't like to see incentives, but they really have no choice, since Toyota is offering them.

Exactly, GM can't afford to have the Tundra's take marketshare and sales away. They're used to discounting, and when everyone is doing it, they have to do it too to keep competitive. Now, this does NOT apply to the car front. GM needs to hold the line on value pricing in stuff other then the full size trucks.

It's taking a while to ramp up production of the 6 speed. Hopefully they'll add them midway through '08.

Toyota has been giving discounts on the Tundra since the first new ones hit the lot.
