Isuzu Ends Joint Venture With GM

Isuzu Ends Joint Venture With GM to Handle Truck Distribution, Sales Through Subsidiary

TOKYO (AP) -- Truck maker Isuzu Motors Ltd. said it started handling distribution and sales in North America directly through a U.S. subsidiary Wednesday, drawing to a close a joint venture with General Motors Corp.
Cerritos, Calif.-based Isuzu Commercial Truck of America took over sales from GM-Isuzu Commercial Truck LLC, a joint venture established in 2000, Isuzu said in a statement.

The company described the move as a "strategic" one undertaken to reinforce sales of cab-over truck models in North America.

Isuzu sold 27,400 trucks in North America in 2006 and aims to sell 50,000 units annually, the company said.

Nearly all of Isuzu's vehicles sold in the U.S. are imported from Japan. Tokyo-based Isuzu produces fewer than 5,000 trucks a year in the U.S. at a GM plant in Janesville, Wis., in a contract agreement with the U.S. automaker.

GM is now free to go on and aquire a European truck maker, like MAN or Scania. Is Scania independent?

Re: Isuzu Ends Joint Venture With GM

toyota is going to get Isuzu to hand over their diesel tech and then drop a diesel into the tundra. before GM gets their diesel into the 1500 trucks.....

I bet money they are already working on it...GM should buy international and be done with it

Buy International? with what money, I have said this time and time again. GM should let Caterpillar design a v8 diesel.... Could u imagine the sales of a CAT 2500HD?? Pop the hood and see that yellow diesel. it would be the best diesel ever put in a pickup.

It's more likely International would buy GM. They are already in negotiations to buy GM's Medium duty line right now.

Isuzu was providing service support for GM Medium duty and that is scheduled to end I think end of August. It may be related to the deal that GM and International are working on.

The Duramax was made by Isuzu for GM. They make some of the best diesels in the truck world.

Re: Isuzu Ends Joint Venture With GM

But the two companies are still going to work together in development and manufacture of diesel engines, correct? Isuzu is just ending a GM-Isuzu partnership of selling medium-duty trucks, correct?

Cat had a v-8 Diesel. It was the 3208 and it stunk.

Too bad there isn't a Solid Front Axle on the 4x4s because a C7 or 6068/6081 Deere are perfect. Heavy...but perfect.

Either would make the Cummins a joke. Deere also makes a 4045 4cyl that has 476 lbs.ft of torque and a 5030 5cyl with more.

I think a GM truck with a big name US Diesel would be huge and a great coup over Nissan and Toyota.
