Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

i hope it does, i wouldnt buy one, but im sure there are people that would. the z06 engine, 6 speed auto/man would be pretty quick. make it limited production if you had to, but it should be there just for the bragging rights. srt-10 vs lightning vs silverado 427 ss....nice.

assuming that the Silverado SS's 6-speed manual tranny had the same gear ratio's that the Z06 has. With a .56 OD gear then I'm sure that it will get low if not mid 20's! With that high of a OD gear the engine is all but at idle when crusing on the highway. I'm not sure of the rear end gears in the truck, and they may have changed the ratios in the tranny due to the weight of the truck as compaired to the Corvette, but I'm sure it could get the mest mileage out of all the Silverado models(which is ironic, due to the engine being the largest in size and hp)

As well, the Corvette is very aerodynamic. An SS Silverado would be similar to strapping a rocket to a brick.

Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

Me personally i love the looks of the truck but i dont need the looks to haul ass. Eventhough i love the way it makes the truck look. If i could get just the Meat and Potatoes please...(427 cubic inches, little 427 badges, rubber floor, nice wheels, manual windows and locks) for under 30k i would buy it. Then put all the aftermarket high speed-low drag bling on it later, on my time, when i can afford it. In the mean time i could pull the 427 badges and stomp every truck on the street in a WT looking truck. Plus i think it would be almost like the copo camaro with pure fire breathing big block in a v6 plain jane shell. GM needs to understand they need to build a somewhat aftermarket friendly platform and let the owner be the artist. Make GM approved sport truck parts to be sold over the counter like lowering kits, performance parts, tail lights, hoods, bumpers, body kits, and exhausts, that dont void the factory warranty as long as they are installed properly, mainly the lowering kit. Scion does this and it works! Doing this brings money to the dealership as well as the technicians performing the work and GM. If you want all that stuff, when you buy the truck have the dealer install it and roll the extra cost into the price of the vehicle.

Selling the body parts at dealerships would also give GM an idea of how much of a demand is out there for a sport truck by the number of body kits they sell. There are a lot of people out there that simply cant afford a 40k truck and barely much less afford a WT. But every chance they get they add something to their truck if its, 20's, exhaust, programer, cold air intake, hood, sterio, tail lights it gets put on as soon as it gets delivered by the mail man. That is what having a sport truck is about. Its about doing it yourself little by little. Having the self satisfaction that you built it. It makes you proud to drive your truck, and makes driving everyday more fun, it instills pride in the vehicle owner knowing that your truck turns heads everywhere you go...and you built it. Its exactly what you want, personality that matches yours! Sport trucks are not about buying anything generic or having to buy something you dont want in order to get something you do want. I had to buy an extended cab with onstar, and xm just to get a 6.0 HO in a half ton. I am so performance minded that it was worth the extra money and extra crap i didnt want to get the cubic inches i wanted. All i wanted was manual windows, locks and 6.0 in a single cab short bed 1500. What is so hard about that? The parts bolt right up why not make it the way i want it? When i go to a resturaunt and order meat and potatoes i get exactly that, Meat... and potatoes! thats what i pay 10 bucks for...Meat and potatoes. The waitress doesnt inform me that the only way to get meat and potatoes is in an upgraded meal that costs 5 dollars extra and comes with spinach and peas. All i want is a meat and potatoes truck, all buisness no B/S extra dead weight.

Still, if the past is any indicator, you can forget about the SS 427 being nearly so close to the ground. Compromise is a favorite word at those corporate board meetings. I fully expect the truck would be tall enough to crawl around under. - Ming

Hot Silverado may be built
Pickup concept sports 7.0 L V8
Nov. 4, 2006. 01:00 AM
GERRY MALLOY
The Toronto Star

General Motors' rethought full-size pickups haven't hit the market yet, but the company is already teasing prospective buyers with the possibilities.

Among the customized trucks that the auto giant displayed at this week's annual SEMA show in Las Vegas is the Chevrolet Silverado 427 concept truck, packing a 427-cubic-inch V8.

In Chevy lore, 427 is a magic number, being the cubic-inch equivalent of 7.0 litres.

The 427 V8 forged the bow-tie brand's performance image on tracks in the '60s and powered ground-pounding McLarens and Lolas on the CanAm circuit.

The current Corvette Z06 has a 427 V8.

Don't rule out the Silverado 427 going into production.

This is the type of styling that needed to replace the tired sheet metal on this years DOG style.

if people car like this, why cant they like the G8 ST? the previous gen commodore ute in hsv guise is listed as "Fastest Production Pick- up/utility" by guinness, and the Ve ute that is G8 ST is even better.

The concept will not progress now that the US has agreed to come on board the Climate express!!!! Anything bigger than a 6 litre will be taxed out of existance
