Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

I can already see battles with this and the SRT-10.

BUT, didn't they cancel the SRT-10 yet?

Personally, I wish they would offer the truck with the 427, and little else to "differentiate". I would like to have that motor in just a regular-looking regular cab truck. Just a couple small "427SS" badges on the side. All the cladding, etc. is a turn off to me.

I'm wondering about this too. I have the same concern about the Camaro. There is every reason to expect gas prices to go up again, and possibly way up. And some day, even the great USA will have to come to terms with carbon emissions, etc. and take steps to improve our efficiency. Surely GM is being run by adults and these things make economic sense. More sense than investing what it takes to bring the Aveo and Cobalts, or their replacements, up to par with what Honda/Toyota are offering and WILL offer in the next few years.

I couldn't agree more. Give me the drivetrain, interior, and wheel/tire package and leave the the body kit for the Honda crowd. It should help reduce the price too.

I say, just leave the old 17's or possibly 18's on it. It would be more stealth, cheaper, and you wouldn't feel so bad about roasting the tires off it...

The ultimate thing would be for GM to do like they did back in the '60's with the ultimate musclecars of the time (COPOs, etc.): Use the W/T truck, and throw the LS7 in. Maybe upgrade the brakes. No air, radio, sound deadener, carpet, etc.

Can you imagine a modern day COPO program????

Looked lightyears better in person than photos. My only gripe was the insanely tall front bumper.

The Dale Jr. Silverado was awesome too!

GM Performance Parts has made it that much easier by offering the already legendary LS7 as a complete crate engine, ready to bolt into your favorite project car. All for about $12,500. My buddy has one in his 1934 Ford Coupe. Awesome machine that will set you back in your seat big time. Loads of fun.

I just read on AOL last night that they " ended " production of it. Dodge said ( I'm trying to find the link ) that its was an " intended limited release " But if you go to the link that SCCA1995 had, you find the 2006 version of the Ram - complete with the exterior makeover ( grille & headlights).

Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

sorry all you guys saying build it in 4 door or extended cab, NO NO and NO again. this is the reason I would never buy a silvarado ss, that and the heavy AWD, oh and it wasnt really that fast, not really at all actually. a sport truck is reg cab. I dont like 4 door or exteneded cab pickups. now I have no problem with the offering it in all 3 configurations and with a manual and an auto, theres a idea options, dont just throw a truck at me say choose the color and you get what you get, theres the silvarado ss again and the SRT-10.. a few issues though. the motor, its great, but get rid of it. you want the z06 motor, be ready to pay z06 money for it. that truck sitting there if it came out just the way it is is probally about 50k. I cant think of a lot of other cars i can spend 50k on before this truck. tone it down a bit, throw in a supercharged ls2 or whatever they have at the time. it will be much cheaper than putting the handbuilt ls7 in it. anyone wonder why the SRT-10 never sold??? it was too expensive. if youre looking for somethingin the price range in a truck youre looking at a diesel. find a cheaper motor, make it 427 if you want, offer it in reg and extended and keep it under 35k, you will have a winner. dosnt anybody remember the lightning, they must follow that formula and you can lose.

all that said it will probally end up being extended cab auto only with a weak 6.2 and nice wheels and the body kit for way too much money, they already tried that it didnt work.

Heck, why aren't aren't there any dealers recreating the COPO's? Just get some base trucks and then put a killer drivetrain in it, taking GM's procrastination out of the equation.

Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

Once again if i was in charge ,GM could make some cash! Here is what i would do . I would make a real SS truck. A short box reg cab only , with the WT trim level on up to the big money stuff. The power train should be able to go into low $$$ option trucks .

The engine choices should be on a order only basis , if i want an 8100 with the 6 speed manual give it to me. So limit the warranty to 3 year 36000 other than the trans and rear end. The LS7 is way to much money , if i want to spend 50 i will buy a Z06 for 10k more and have something fast .

The SS should be a Toy , like the 454SS from the 90's. The high power engines in regular trucks should just be options, not an SS. The SS should be a short box reg cab 2 wheel drive only. Like a Shelby Cobra from the 60's , lots of power very little weight.

A modern day COPO program would be shot down by all the cry babies !

If i was in charge there would be COOL stuff for every one , and the CAFE could suck me off!

Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

as much as it may suck, there is not and will never be another copo program. it would probally cost way too much money and not be profitable enough. its the same reason , I think at least, that options are so limited on vehicles nowadays. I remember, this was just 5-7 years ago, you could get way more options on vehicles you can do now. now it seems everything is lumped into packages. you want the top of the line radio in youre truck?? you just went from a 23k base model to a 29k upper level truck. all you wanted was a nice radio, but youre forced to get the nav, heated seats and power folding trailer tow mirrors along with it whether you like it or not. this is just an example, but you get the idea. its designed to keep costs down, the less different configurations they have to make at the factory the cheaper the whole thing is. it sucks but thats the way it is. I believe though it drives some people away. the will judt go buy a loaded truck thats 2 or 3 years old for 25k rather than spend the 35k because they wanted a quad cab and a nice stereo or something like that. they get more truck for their money that way. if they offered more options with out forcing you to get other stuff you didnt want they may sell more new trucks, I dont know.

If I ran GM I would build the truck the way I said. tone it down. offer it with a less exotic motor, ls2 ls3, whatever, supercharge it if it didnt make enough power, maybe even turbo, offer it in reg cab, extended or 4 door, manual or automatic in any of them. make sure the reg cab version comes in under probally 33k top out the quad at probally 38 or 39.

wanna really shake things up??? put a duramax in it. id get in line for that. hows 500hp 900ftlbs and 20 mpg grab you???
