Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

This I like! Tho not a big fan of the redesign so far. I'm hoping it grows on me more. I'd love to have a 427 in my 03!

same here...the SRT10 Ram lost all appeal to me when they made it a crew cab. though i must admit it's a good business move.

And using the 7.0 L V-8 is yet another application of the engine that most likely justifies the development costs of the 7.0L. In fact, apply the engine to several other vehicles (CTS/C, Escalade line, SRX(?), STS(?)...) and you make the dollars spent on the engine seem even more like money well spent. And, you get a kick-ass group of vehicles!

Makes perfect sense to me.
I agree with you, but isn't the LS7 hand-assembled? Doesn't that fact limit the quantity available for other vehicles? I'd love to see an array of LS7-powered vehicles, but I wonder what the trade-off would be if this engine was built in a conventional manner, i.e., by a robot.

At least the aftermarket is ready for our money if GM doesn't build it. 427 cube engines are now a "normal" sale for big aftermarket shops.

Can someone make the hood scoop smaller and take off those air ducts on the bottom or color match them. I think it looks awesome except those things.

they should do it...they have all of the parts, so why not? even if its a limited edition, it would make an impact on the Silverado's image

Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

I really liked the step side single cab body style of the last gen SVT F-150 and I kinda hoped that this Silverado picks up the step side pickup look.

Also as much as I would love the LS7 to be put in this pickup its a endurance racing motor and not something that you can just pile the horsepower on to.

I like the idea of a LS8 Supercharged SBC being both cheap and able to add loads of horsepower on it. I think that a AWD LS8 (low cost supercharged V-8) making about 500BHP factory stock and being able to take 1,000BHP easy would make for a awesome truck if you ask me.

Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

the z06 will never get an auto. that said, i think the auto is a better choice than the manual. it has a lower first than the mz6 (z51) and taller 6th gear than the mm6 (with 2.56:1 dif). it's rated at 624lb ft, vs 450lb ft. it's easier on drivetrain components, shifts quicker, and is more consistent. and with tapshift, the driver controls shift points. the only downside right now is a fixed, low stall point...which will be solved in about 2 years (LuK). the new porsche turbo auto is faster than the manual.

the silverado 427 won't sell well, but it is an image vehicle. and lutz has said the 427 is good for 600 hp in oem trim. and people who buy these cars don't worry about mileage...this won't appeal to the average corolla driver. maybe to prius drivers...lol

i think the 2 door looks better, bet to make it do-able, they'll probably have to have crew-cab for volume sake.

Re: Hot Silverado 427 SS Concept May be Built

the mileage might not even be THAT bad...it could probably idle past anything at 70 on the highway

i'll take a 4 door auto version of it and
i have to say it needs the rear bumper-saw it at sema and the back
just looked way too tall without it.

the only thing better than the little 427 "mouse motor" would be the rat motor 427.that would be nice if GM would breathe new life into a big block 427.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but unless you're a high volume mind reader, please don't profess to know what other people love/hate. It needs a little more work, but I believe it has potential.

IMO, we need the 7L as the 8.1L replacement.
