The GMT-900's are Here!

By Bob Lutz
GM Vice Chairman

Over the past year, you’ve heard me recite a familiar refrain: GM will not be satisfied building vehicles that are simply competitive. We are out to build best-in-class vehicles in each and every segment. Our all-new 2007 full-size sport utilities, the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon, are in dealerships now, with the 2007 Cadillac Escalade following in the next few weeks. They’re solid examples of this approach to product development.

I look at these trucks, and I’m proud of what I see, and I’m proud of the team that developed them. Even working within the obvious constraints of full-size SUVs, our designers gave each one a fresh look, and a unique, distinctive exterior. I’ll stack the interiors up against anybody’s, too; the craftsmanship and attention to detail inside has been taken to new heights.

When you drive them, you’ll find vastly improved handling, comfort and quiet. They offer best-in-class fuel economy, and they’re priced reasonably. But you can get all of that information, and the long list of standard and optional features, elsewhere on GM’s web pages. I’m just here to tell you that you have to see these trucks in person, and you have to drive them. They’re not just pictures in magazines and newspapers anymore — they’re down the street at the dealership.

Go have a look. Compare them to any and all of our competition. And once you do, tell us what you think. For those of you who already own one of them, we’d love to hear from you as well. link

Re: They're Here

Best-in-class would have required they invest in IRS and the superior packaging it enables. The Tahoe's third row remains worst-in-class.

I do hope to drive one of these soon.

Great, i hope they sell well. Hopefully GM will make the same effort to build "best-in-class" vehicles for the more competive segments like high volume cars.

Several Lutz era cars aren't best-in-class, though.

The Tahoe does not have "worst-in-class" rear seats.

they don't have as much room, but they felt hella better than the expedition's and sequoia's. so flat and uncomfortable

Re: They're Here

I had the opportunity to sit in a new Tahoe the other day. Interior was nice, body seemed to be higher up than previous gens. However, the interior didn't really seem to be any roomier than previous years. Waiting to check out the new Yukon and Escalade.

Re: They're Here

I've seen the new Expedition and it doesn't have a rats chance in hell in competing with the new Tahoe! Old Billy Ford said,"Let's put the Fusion grill on it and a power dome hood even though it's underpowered.Maybe they should put a couple of hamsters under the power dome with all that extra room! Also that dash looks streight out of the 60's. as far as you whiners crying about IRS,how come when ever the Tahoe gets reviewed,it is rated above the expedition in ride comfort and handling ?

I agree, Hammerhead. Funny how all these other manufacturers have all these so called advanced technology motors and trannys, yet GM still uses the old-school technology of OHV, push-rod designed engines that still produce as much if not more power with even better economy.

pushrod engines were designed after OHC engines, not so old school now is it. You know nothing, and your 3 posts proves it.

Re: They're Here

I like the new Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade. But their 3rd row seat design and config is a hassle if you have to remove the seats in order to properly use the rear storage area.

I don't mind that some mid-size & large SUVs have subpar 3rd row seats. Their seats fold flat and are 'out-of-the-way'. If I have to worry about where I'm going to store my 3rd row, then that vehicle will be crossed off my running list. I don't use the 3rd row often, so I prefer to have the option of folding it down out of the way very important.

Re: They're Here

GM hit a home run with these trucks! They look great and the Tahoe I drove had more than enough power. Let's just hope people still want their own personal tanks.

The HHR, Solstice, H3, and GMT-900's are the only products that Lutz has really taken a lead role in.

Is there anybody in the world who could design and bulid a line of vehicles that are all best in class? I think he's done a great job with every car he's taken a lead role in. The lineup speaks for itself.

Re: They're Here

As far as IRS vs. the solid axle (with the five link on the GM full size), I'd bet anyone they couldn't tell the difference if someone put them in each vehicle blind folded and asked them which one is which and which one rides better.

It's all a matter of marketing.

Re: They're Here

Few people know the difference between IRS and a solid axle. They'll judge it by how it rides. GM has done a great job with these, but there are always the people who love to bash GM, Ford, anything American, or just everything in general.

When is it going to be popular to bash Toyota, since they like to think of themselves as American?
