Re: GM's Truck-loads of Cash: Will It Put The Brakes on Toyota?

I see incentives staying high on these trucks for some time. Toyota has the cash to offer big incentives on these trucks, no doubt about that. They need a foothold in this competitive segment, and if that means lower profits for the first year, then that is what Toyota will do to reach 200k/year. They can not afford this truck to be seen as a failure,PERIOD.

Re: GM's Truck-loads of Cash: Will It Put The Brakes on Toyota?

Just because Toyota hits 200k this year, just as the prev Tundra, who's to say where it will end up in 2-3 years. It may be more, may be a heckuva lot less. How they hold up will matter too. More camshaft problems and ppl will become wary. If the frames start to not hold up, word will get out and they will tank. So, this is how it works at the moment.

Don't forget, you have GMT-800's competing against GMT900's as well...so...every sale on a GMT-800 was a potential sale in a GMT-900, for less profit as well.

Thumbs up Re: GM's Truck-loads of Cash: Will It Put The Brakes on Toyota?

I don't know what the GM incentives will do to limit 'yota sales, however, I am currently in the process of taking my cash, and buying an '07 Silverado. I'm sticking with what I know best and thats the General.

Re: GM's Truck-loads of Cash: Will It Put The Brakes on Toyota?

I have been a loyal Toyota owner for the last 15 years 1992 SR5 Xtra Cab. This year it was time. Wanted a new truck capable of towing at least 7K lbs. Toyota rolls out their new Tundra. Sign me up. So in July I go to look for the 4x4 Crew Max Limited. Well SOCAL dealers tell me sorry don't have any in stock. We will take your name, and let you know. BTW it will be MSRP no deals. I call around and get a dealership in San Jose with one, and it will be $46.5K. Well at that price I went to look at Chevy. For $53K I can get a Silverado 4x4 2500HD Crew Cab Standard box with a 6.6 L Duramax. Thow in the incentive of $3.5 K and for $49.5K I have a 3/4 ton with 365 hp and gobs of torque, and a bigger truckbed, and I still get to buy some Japanese quality on top of that. Fuel economy should be the same if not better, and plus I can run green fuel (biodeisel) without mods. So now I have a diesel torque monster. This was the best choice for the $$, and after reading more about diesel I think it is a excellent alternative for not only trucks, but cars too. Europe has over 50% market penetration with diesel. The TDI diesel VW Bug gets up to 50 mph!

Wow...The Few, The Proud, The Converts.

Which interior did you get? I want pics of the truck!

And BTW: If only they made comparisons like that into commercials...

Nice choice! You got a much better truck in all aspects. You should start a thread to tell us more about it and show off some pictures!

So are you saying there is, or at least was, a quality issue?
