A De-Camoed Look at GM's New H3

Well, there you have it folks, it's Hummer's new baby in the flesh. As you can tell by the pictures Hummer has designed the H3 as a smaller, yet sportier addition to the Hummer lineup. The H3 had the typical "Brick-like" Hummer shape but with huge wheel flares that leave some of the editors scratching their heads. We understand the need for the flares, but the ones picture look extremely tacky. There is a great amount of ground clearance as well as the huge wheels that the H3 sits on. As you can tell, the H3 is definitely a Midsize SUV, it looks as if it is similar in size to the Tahoe parked to the left of it. Although the front is not visible in this particular photo, we can only assume that the H3 will carry the signature 7 slot grille and round headlamps that have adorned the legendary H1 and rugged H2.

Inside the H3 is by far the most luxurious of the three. With an interior looking more like the Saab 9-7x, the H3 will carry it's passengers in the lap of luxury while climbing over boulders or fording water. The metallic trim looks well done and the seats have a sorta "Buick Feel" to them. The 4-Spoke steering wheel has a cool looking H3 logo mounted in the center of it. There are chrome touches in the door handles and more metallic trim on the floor mounted shifter. The ergonomics look to be perfect with the HVAC controls large and at the bottom, with the more complicated radio controls mounted near the top. There are also more traditional air vents built into the dash board, as opposed the spherical ones found on the H2. It's evident that Hummer did their homework when it came to the H3's interior.

The H3 will be a 2006 model and will likely be on sale in less than a year from now. Power will likely come from an Inline 5 Cylinder and will come with a 4 Speed Automatic or a a 5 Speed Manual. Pricing should be in the 30K range. Stay connected to GMInsideNews for your latest Hummer and GM news!

personally i really dont like the interior, and the flares seem cheasy. the interior reminds me of the same thing that has been bothing me with the new lincon/mustang interior. it looks like bunch of good materials by todays standards (very high standards) but the design of all of these look to be 10 or 15 years old. although these are spy shots, im just not a fan of plane old squares and knobs. and with this i will be open minded when officail pictures come out, but i have a feeling im not going to like the interior styling of this beast. this is not a truck that is ruined by styling however, its not ment for that.

Inline 5 just ruins it for me. If I'm going to buy a baby hummer it's going to need a baby v8. No compromises!

Random person: Hey I see you got a new Hummer, what's it got for an engine?

You: An inline 5!

cool, allot more manly looking than a Land Rover. Does anyone know the price point for this? High $20k's, low $30k's. The H2 is around $50k so I would expect at least a $10k price drop. And they have a truck based off of this? F*'n cool.

I could see myself behind the wheel of one of these, but NOT a Land Rover.

looks like its made from cheap exterior materials, i.e. saturn like plastic. fit and finish on the exterior needs to be improved a bit. too much black plastic as well, but im sure you can get them in the chrome package. i love hummer's rugged shape, and i pray they come out with the HX, the wrangler sized hummer.

The I5 is good engine for the midsize trucks, but this will weigh quite a bit more and should atleast get the I6. But maybe they made the engine compartment too small for the I6, and its stuck with the I5.

The H3 is not off the trailblazer chassis, but the Colorado and Canyon chassis. The I-5 is a great engine, what is the big deal? I think most people that talk about it havent driven one and just take the 5cyls as beeing "not enough" to do the work.

with that, the H3 needs bigger tires, or lower it a bit. Looks very mean and agressive. I hope that it will live up to the Hummer brand name....and I cant wait for the Alpha car!!!

That H3 is pretty cool looking. I don't think the fender flares look that cheesy. But I also agree with most of you, it definately needs something bigger than the I-5. Not knocking on the I-5 or anything, but that's probably going to be a fairly heavy truck.

i like it, i think the flares make it look sporty, but i think the i-6, or turbo i-5 should be availabe.

That is the sweetest Hummer I've ever seen. I like the rear styling it looks like a promising vehicle in Hummer's lineup. OH man I'm excited now! :woot2:

Wow, looks interesting. One question though, if it's a midise SUV, why is it as big as the Tahoe? Wouldn't that make it as big as the H2, doesn't Hummer need a small SUV?
