GMC's Big Wagon: SF Chronicle Acadia Review

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...TGD8Q46LU1.DTL

Interesting review by a pundit who seems to be forced to concede that the Acadia does have some nice qualities.

This guy is an idiot. If there is an operation gasping for air, it's the Chronicle.

Re: GMC's Big Wagon: SF Chronicle Acadia Review

Overall, it's a pretty good review. The mileage of 14mpg in Bay Area driving is a bit disappointing, but with the traffic and the hills, it's understandable. And he's right.. it's big and heavy, and the tranny "issue" was mentioned by all other reviewers. But it's supposed to be a learning tranny. You'd think they'd mention that somewhere.

Re: GMC's Big Wagon: SF Chronicle Acadia Review

Good review, but the reviewer complains about transmission shifting issues. I wonder if the test model he was driving had received the recent software update discussed in USA Today's recent review of the Saturn Outlook (linked below):

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...-outlook_N.htm

I sent the writer a comment about the software update. If the Acadia he drove had not received its new software, I hope he mentions it in a future article.

Re: GMC's Big Wagon: SF Chronicle Acadia Review

reading his idiotic comments here and there left me disgusted and I did not finish reading his poor excuse of a review...

It's stuff like this that GM has a hard time gaining ground on Toyota and the perception that they do not make cars and trucks up to par with TMC...

I hope GM keeps turning out homerun cars and trucks and kicks the pants off of Toyota and all the press supporters they have!...

GO GM!!!

Re: GMC's Big Wagon: SF Chronicle Acadia Review

It seems the reviewer found himself in a really nice vehicle, but couldn't quite get himself to admit it in front of all of his Yuppity friends in the bay area.

I'm REALLY tired of everyone complaining about how big the Lambdas are. Good grief, if it's too big, go buy a smaller vehicle. You do not get as much usable interior space in any of its smaller competitors. This vehicle is not made for people shopping for a CRV. It is almost perfect for its intended use and buyers.

Re: GMC's Big Wagon: SF Chronicle Acadia Review

I remember driving the Acadia, and overall I loved the vehicle. The only thing I really noticed is that the motor doesn't seem all that powerful and the transmission has a hard time selecting a gear.

Re: GMC's Big Wagon: SF Chronicle Acadia Review

When he reviews the Mini, I wonder if he will mention umpteen times that it is small (did I mention that the Mini is small?).

It's like buying a Colts jersey and then saying "did I mention that its blue?" No kidding. That's the whole point.

It was a positive review. His only real complaint was the transmission hunting for gears. He spent a fair amount of time complaining about the whole "GM has too many brands" bit, but, who cares?

Funny that a Chronicle reporter is complaining about the need for GM to cut brands, when the Hearst Corp is about to cut 25 percent of the Chron's newsroom employees. Oh irony. How cruel you are!

They do kinda look like each outher. However, the CUV have great HP and a 6 speed.I think GM worked on the powertrain and did not have money left over for the outside.

Don't defend it b/c its in the chronicle, a full 1/3 of that review was focused on why GM sucks - and every backhanded comment the reviewer could come up from. When it does well, its, meh. Literary tripe from what is supposed to be a premier newspaper in a premier city.

Re: GMC's Big Wagon: SF Chronicle Acadia Review

"And because GM is offering the same car at three different brands of dealer (GMC, Buick and Saturn), the odds are that you are going to find one of these cars at a heavily enough discounted price that it might well make up for all the money you're going to later pour into its fuel tank."

Sadly, he is right.....rebadges mean discounts at some point (as well as lower resale values). GM never learns from this, they should have the Acadia and Outlook....period!

I got the same vibe from the review. Like he wanted so bad to say something negative about the Acadia, so instead he made snide remarks about shutting down Oldsmobile and other divisions. Frankly, he sounded very much like an arrogant prick.

Believe me, I have no problem with an honest review, and his points about the vehicle itself were more or less valid, but I really couldn't stand the tone that it took. I subscribe to Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and Road & Track, and I've never felt they were being biased.
