Re: GMC Sierra Z71 All terrain

Yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine who works at Oshawas Truck assembly plant and he mentioned they ran some pilot jobs of a special truck but he wasn't sure what it was, after reading about the Sierra All Terrain I suspect that was the truck he seen. Right now they are just in the pilot stage so it will be months before they churn out any saleable units.

Sierra All Terrain
Available later the '08 model year, the Sierra All Terrain builds on the dynamic Z71 Off Road package with a roster of stylish, refined and capable features that combine to create a unique truck that's ready for anything. The All Terrain will be available on extended cab standard box and crew cab models in either 2WD or 4WD.
Product details include:
  • Z71 Off Road package, with skid plates, locking rear differential and high-capacity air cleaner
  • Standard 5.3L V-8
  • Optional 6.0L V-8 (with transmission cooler and oil cooler)
  • Heavy-duty trailering package
  • 18-inch chrome wheels
  • Unique Rancho Tenneco shocks; white with red letters
  • Body-colour side moldings with chrome accents
  • Unique chrome grille
  • All Terrain badges on the front fenders
  • Full-function outside mirrors in body colour
  • Body-colour door handles
  • Ebony cloth seating
  • Exclusive two-tone leather seat colour combination (SLT only)
  • Specific instrument panel with brushed metal appearance
  • Floor mats with "All Terrain" logo and unique sill plates
Sierra All Terrain is offered in six exterior colours: Fire Red, Black, Silver, Stealth Gray, White and Graystone.

On another note in October or November they will begin assembling the Hybrid trucks.

I Also heard from him that beginning next year there will be a diesel engine offered for the 1500 series trucks but he didn't know what transmission will be mated to it.

Re: GMC Sierra Z71 All terrain

Does this sit higher? This should be available on Silverado as well, hopefully it is. They should add a 3lt model with full feature buckets, and the truck dash, and chrome out the LTZ and give it the console doors like the SUV's and Avalanche.

It probably will take cues from it like the Avalanche Z71 did from the SEMA Z71 Plus concept. I can't wait to see what this off-road package will look like. It's like waiting for the Tahoe Z71 all over again.

Re: GMC Sierra Z71 All-Terrain

Will it get BFG AT tires?
Sounds like a slightly upgraded truck, but not with much. Cool that they are putting in the Rancho shocks, they are very popular in the aftermarket and would be a great tie in with the truck.

I would think that they would leave this to 4wd only...but oh well.

Re: GMC Sierra Z71 All-Terrain

The biggest question of all- how much will the option cost? I will definitely be checking this out as a replacement for my truck, but I would like to know how much it will add to the truck first!

Re: GMC Sierra Z71 All-Terrain

If it dosent have a ride height advantage over the regular Z71, it is already a failure, it needs to have the front end leveled out with the rear and 285's as a option to give it a little more lift. That is one thing I have always hated about GM trucks, their 4wd ride height. When compaired to the FX4 & TRX4 trucks the Z71 comes up short in ride height. And dont forget to add Morroco brown leather as a option on the trucks this year!

You are exactly right. The Z-71 off road package is nice but these trucks seriously lack ground clearance. Not only does it offer better off road capability, but it just looks better. GM's stubborness to build these things so close to the ground is why I am in a Nissan Titan right now instead of another Sierra. The Titan has 11 inches of ground clearance with the best approach and departure angles in it's class. Not to mention a rear locker, although having owned the G-80 before I believe GM is superior in that category. Stock tire size is 285/70/R17.
This all terrain truck sounds like something I would buy. I really would like to come back to GMC. However, it has to offer real world capability not just cosmetic upgrades. Hey GM, GROUND CLEARANCE is what makes a truck good off road not decals! I would love to buy another GM but not until the 4 wheel drives sit higher than a Toyota Rav-4!!!!!!!
