It will never be set. You have to keep up and ahead of the competition.

Re: GMC Minivan Spy Shot in Popular Mechanics Magazine

Minivans are just too convenient to ever go away. SUVs (even CUVs) lose a lot of their utility as they add ground clearance that is unneeded. The result is, even with seats folded, you have less room back there.

I, for one, will be getting a minivan when I have kids. If I had to choose one today I'd o with a Caravan for the Sto'N'Go, even though I know the Odessey is a better driver with a nicer interior. Again, utility. I really hope GMs are up to par when I buy.

But I probably won't be in the market till kid #2 comes along. The Caprice has plenty of room for 1.

Exactly. They have to continue to surprise. Unfortunately, subsequent surprises aren't going to be as big as these -- esp. with the minivan. Imagine going from the current vans to something like a Sienna but with the interior of the Outlook or Acadia (the Sienna's interior looks like a large zit about to pop)? It will simply blow folks away.

Didn't Toyota just redo their truck interior after they saw the 900s? They'll have to do that again. And that's what you want. Get Toyota to play catch up -- but do it all the time.

Second trick is always the hardest.

From what I hear the Lambda minivans will have a sto'n'go feature, Not named the same but same idea.

I don't think this swoopy look is a fit for GMC. Same with the Outlook's profile on the Acadia. Nice Odyssey grille shape, too.

Re: GMC Minivan Spy Shot in Popular Mechanics Magazine

it seems to be more modern from the shaping and i seem to like what there is to see but is it just me or does this van seem as narrow as the old ones i remebr some complaining the CSVs werent wide enough it jsut may be the angle of the picture though the earlier the better, do u think GM will rename the chevy van or keep it Uplander i mean how many times can GM rename theyre vans, or all cars in general lately?

It looks like its Right-Hand-Drive... Either that or the IP is in the center.

GMC has built up a reputation as this hard nosed truck builder...

now watch the reputation slip away.

I don't get it. Did the Safari never exist? At any time my GMC dealer back a few years ago had loads of them on the lot. Even when the things were clearly on their last legs, technologically speaking.

If this van is solid, I don't see how it could negatively impact GMC. The Safari, while internally referred to by GM guys as a "mid-size" van, was often just seen as an 80's-era "minivan" by others.

Besides, was the late GMC Jimmy really a gem of reliability that helped build the image of "hard nosed truck"?

There is alot of misinformation in this thread. I'll say that none of the dates are correct and the picture is "misleading".

Re: GMC Minivan Spy Shot in Popular Mechanics Magazine

i still think it should of been saturn to get the minivan not GMC because Saturn can get people who shop at Honda and Toyota i think before Chevy or GMC can so there should of been a chevy and a saturn leave all trucks to GMC

Ah! You beat me to it.

I was thinking the IP was in the center, since you can make out the driver on the left.

After all of the bashing GM/Saturn took with the center IP on the Ion, you'd think they would have kept the dials IN FRONT of the driver where they belong.

Someone else mentioned that the van looked a little narrow. I had that thought too. Now that I see that this van could possibly have a center IP, I hope there were no compromises made for a European van. However, honestly, I have never really complained about space in my Venture, but that could be because I never drove any other van...

I thought that the minivan market was imploding? Wouldnt this $ be better spent on mid SUVs and compact pickemups- Minivans are fantastic for families with kids, though. I just seem to hate them.

sorry, i did not intend it to be construed in that manner.

what i mean is that chevy will be completely on-track--as in no more:

-stopgaps (CSVs)
-outdated models (trailblazer)
-ugly models that don't sell well (malibu)

of course this just means Chevy is just started and needs to continue to produce at a rate better than Toyota. that's just a given.
