GMC: "Let's Talk"

I'm not sure when, but GMC has recently launched a new mini site called "Let's Talk Trucks". It's very similar to Cadillac's My Cadillac Story except the GMC site features regular people.

Links:
www.letstalktrucks.com
www.mycadillacstory.com

Sorry if its a repost

Re: GMC: "Let's Talk"

Why does GM tell people the new trucks get over 20mpg? In the new Truckin magazine their Silverado test truck has averaged 13.7mpg in real world driving. There is still a lot of room for improvement.

Because if you drive the way the EPA test's ALL cars and trucks, you will get 20 mpg or more with a 5.3 Silvy or Sierra.

My uncle has a 900 Silverado with the 5.3L. He drives it to work (about 60 highway miles round trip) and averages 21 MPG. He claims it is in 4 cylinder mode nearly the whole trip.

His son, my cousin, just got one as well. He says that the DIC real-time fuel economy is usually in the mid to high 20's when it is in 4 cylinder mode.

Nobody is immune from the laws of physics. Asking a 2.5 ton (or more) truck to get 20 mpg around town is tough to do, at reasonable prices at least. They clearly state in the Sierra vs. the Competition link from CobaltSScrazy that they're talking about the EPA highway mileage, and the competition is also subject to the same EPA tests, which the Sierra gets better results at (excluding other GM products).

I occasionally have to drive a medium duty crew cab with a solid front axle and 4x4 for work. They do exist, and if I am not mistaken, they outsell the medium duty Fords.

If I had lots of money to burn, a Topkick with a pickup style bed option like that one would be in my driveway.

My 07 RCSB with full load, 5.3 and 20's gets 19mpg (US gallons) in the city and about 23mpg (US gallons) on the highway. I say about as last highway trip had lots of wind and rain so inaccurate.

In town the 4 cyl mode is on a lot, on the highway once above about 65 mph it stays in v8 mode...driving that slow is tough (mainly because the highway speed limit is 68 (110km/hr) and most people cruise at 75-80).

The biggest thing that affects mileage is the driver.

My mileage numbers are for average driving, if I really baby it in town I can average over 20mpg, I can only imagine how the magazine guys run them!!

Also, my truck is still fairly new, the numbers get better with every tank.

Oh yeah me too. I have wanted to do that since before it was popular. Back in the early 90's a farmer friend of mine put a 3500 bed on a Topkick he bought, and he used it as his farm truck, There was nothing it couldnt haul or pull! I have wanted one ever since, but if I had one I would make it look kinda.....autobotish, if you get my drift!

Alberta rocks.

BTW, 4 cylinder mode doesn't mean 2x the fuel economy. You are either running on 4 cylinders at high load or eight at lower load... so the difference between 105 km/h in 4 and 110 in 8 isn't very much though it is more.
