Re: GMC Confirms V8 Engine Option for Canyon

VERY unimpressive. The new Durango has over 230 hp and is .5 liters smaller. What is GM doing? This also needs a manual and offered in ALL configurations.

1) Is available in Regular Cab

2) Doesn't have the 4 second delay
It won't be a regular cab, it won't be a manual, and no truck has a 4 second delay no matter how many times it has been mentioned on this site. Hopefully it will be an aluminum block version otherwise GM blew it again. Upgrade the interior and brakes along with an aluminum block and you have a much more desireable truck.

What do you mean? This is the same power (295) the Sierra had last year and the v5 has what, 225?

Not to mention the 5.3 is very easy to tweak to get more power, vs the 4 or 5cyl.

I wonder what its going to take to make you people happy. Like it or not, GM does what sells, and all the people in here screaming for 6 spds and blowers doesnt matter if you arent going to buy one.

I think "4 second delay" is just what people have come to call Torque Management, which is very real, but if I timed it it would be pretty close to 4 seconds before you actually get 100% throttle when floored from a take off. It is very obvious in my 07 when it goes to full power. The good thing is it is still plenty quick as compared to my 06.

Wooo....congrats on that! Wish I had the V8, but the 3.7l I5 is enough for me. You must show us pics when you get it.

I'm like an impatient kid waiting for a present. I need these trucks to have the 5.3L. . . . . if I had my way it would be offered in a Reg. cab. But I'm sure that won't happen.

I just built a '08 Canyon Ext. Cab 2wd in SLE2 trim and the 5.3L is no charge over the 3.7L. I hope that remains the case in the future.

Here's a page with the LH8 5.3L. There is a picture and some good info. It's has an aluminum block like in the TB.

In the brochure it says the V8 is standard in the Zq8 package, and it has the same 18" wheels the Extreme did/does on the Colorado. No manual though, which is a bummer, but I don't care. The one other thing that bums me is it still has the old radio so no mp3 jack on it.

I did the same on the GMC site, but I cant believe the 5.3 will be no charge. I bet that gets updated when they are actually available.

I'll take mine in Carbon Black with ebony interior (cloth) please, then its off to get the same leather I had put in my Sierra with heated seats. It feels like I'm sitting on my sofa at home. Get an intake and flowmasters, roll pan, color matched grill, painted bumper cover, and later some new wheels and I will be in heaven.

Re: GMC Confirms V8 Engine Option for Canyon

does the v8 come with a stick? if it doesnt that would suck i guess i'll just have to settle for a frontier or tacoma because my i-5 colorado is gutless, at least its a stick.

Re: GMC Confirms V8 Engine Option for Canyon

Score one (against) the bean counters here I guess. The ZQ8 which, after all, is a sport package should have a standard cab version and a manual tranny available as a no cost option. I'd guess they see the dollar signs attached to the extended cab auto tranny options piled on top of the ZQ and engine package. Wonder what other necessary options will be added on to pad the price? Sure hope I'm wrong about all this, the Canyon is a decent looking version of the truck, could be real popular (not too sure I like those wheels though).

Re: GMC Confirms V8 Engine Option for Canyon

If you had done any reading on this topic.. you would know that the V8 short cab configuration is not available currently because it does not meet GM's crash standards. That's not to say it won't be available in the near future.. but their obviously needs to be more work put into the short cab configuration before it goes on sale to the general public.

I do agree with all that it sucks that their will not be a manual transmission option. Unfortunately those of us who like to drive a manual transmission are in the far minority when compared to sales... at least that is the offcial line from many in GM. Of course when you look at Toyota and Nissan and the fact that they offer a 6 speed manual in their light trucks makes me question GM's explanation.

Re: GMC Confirms V8 Engine Option for Canyon

They sell more autos because thats all they build. Whenever you go looking for anything with a manual the selection on the lots is always slim so you end up buying the auto. I think manual sales numbers would be higher if more vehicles came with the option. That and if people actually took the 5 seconds to learn the joy of rowing their own gears. Its really not that hard or bad, even in traffic. Considering how fat Americans are getting that little bit of cardio might actually be beneficial.
