Re: Tata wants to buy HUMMER

They need to auction off the Hummer brand name and dealer network to the highest bidder. If it's Tata, so be it.

All of the future Hummers under development (H4 and future versions of H3 and H3T) can be given to GMC. Maybe "Professional Grade" will mean something when attached to a Wrangler-sized, off-road capable, body-on-frame SUV, as opposed to a Pontiac Torrent replacement.

Re: Tata wants to buy HUMMER

Once in India, its name can become "Ommer" to generate good karma!

H4 is done son, you can bet GM froze that immediately.

GMC is another gas-guzzling brand whose time to be phased out has come.

Agreed. Utility and 4x4 is not out, largess and excess is out. Recreational vehicles won't go away... weekend warriors might.

The H2's days are #'rd but perhaps Hummer could support a 3-4 model range with the H3 on top. The H3T should have had a Avalanche-esque midgate. Hopefully, the HX will become the H4 before long.

Agreed on the H3T Avalanche midgate. I'd have bought one of those as I've been hoping GM would build a mini-Av, to no avail. Or, a reg cab, but no such luck there either.

Re: Tata wants to buy HUMMER

It depends on what Tata is offering, all I can say is GM should ask for billions and not give it away AND keep supplying powertrains.

Still against GM selling Hummer as I think if Hummer was moved downmarket against Jeep it can thrive and I bet IF Hummer is sold that is what the new owner will do and we will say "Why didn't GM do that?"

IF GM does sell Hummer (and ONLY for a ton of $$$$) moving the H3T and H4 to GMC is a good idea and a 2D Wrangler-sized, off-road capable, body-on-frame SUV can be the new Jimmy and the GMC grille could be revised a little on the ex-Hummer models to identify them as "off-road ready" like GMC does with the Denali line.

Jeep is canning the Commander. That leave it with the Grand Cherokee, various Wranglers, Liberty, Patriot and Compass. GM already has countless competitors for the Grand Cherokee. The Patriot and Compass are cars. That leaves the Wrangler and Liberty.

The fact is that the Wrangler is a unique vehicle with a unique history that is supported by a legion of die-hard Jeep fans. Hummer would end up "competing" for customers against the FJ and Element, not the Wrangler.

Seems the sensible splits, Hummer should be with/part of GMC - & fit with Pontiac, Saturn & Saab seem to be a good match also.

I'd rather GM keep Hummer, but aim it as a real 4wd brand, teamed with GMC. As a real 4wd it can be sold worldwide.

Agreed. If GM sells Hummer, this is the way I want to see it go. The H3 could replace the Envoy too.

Re: Tata wants to buy HUMMER

It seems pointless selling assets to then hand hundreds of millions to unrelated companies - American Axle - rather than have a common-sense approach to procurement by having several suppliers.

Also, I think Tata will have it's hands full with JLR - Ford pumped billions into the brand with very little return. Tata will have to have deep pockets to finance R&D and considering they've had to undertake a hefty right issue to afford the purchase in the first place .....

GM should keep Hummer and, once their technology allows it, produce an electric one - Can you imagine the PR that would produce.
