Not if GM uses the Bosch ECM that is currently used in the European tuned BMW's. They are unhackable. And this is straight from an EFIlive software/platform developer. GM is changing the ECM platform on the 2010's, just not sure which ECM they are going to use. If they were smart, GM would use a non-hackable ECM. Sounds like there should be ways around it, but if the European BMW diesel owners can't get around it, and it's a large market, tuning GM diesels may be things of the past. Glad I got my LMM and not the upcoming LML! And for the post above this about GM not having the $$ to pay Isuzu to make more Duramax's. Isuzu doesn't make GM's diesels anymore! GM bought Isuzu's stake in the Duramax years ago. Chris

From what I read, Manufactures can build as many diesels as possible up until Jan 1st, and install them in trucks after that date, until they run out. The problem is GM cannot afford to pay Isuzu to stock pile engines like this.

The Duramax is no longer Isuzu. It's 100% GM. It's been that way for quite some time now.

GM cannot afford but wipe, right now. When did they buy Isuzu?

Isuzu. The number one builder of Diesel Engines? Big or Small?

Isuzu still builds them, GM can't afford them.

You should ask Gary Arvan (GM's DURAMAX Powertrain Chief Engineer) about that. That would give him a chuckle.

GM no longer has ANY connections with Isuzu. And you have it all backwards. GM once owned Isuzu but sold it all off in 2006.

The Duramax is 100% GM now.

Re: GM to stop Duramax diesel output for 4½ months

These new regulations have effectively killed the point of owning a Diesel ( except for the power), I miss the Diesel's of old which were relatively simple ( in comparison to the new ones), Great on fuel, and lasted forever with proper maintnence. There is just too much emissions crap to make me think these new motors will go as long as the old 7.3 Powerstroke's and 5.9 Cummin's went without major repair bills ( IMO those two motors are the gold standard of durability).

More power, from more fuel, which increased emissions, which lead to the EGRs, cats, DPFs and the latest set of diesel diapers.
How many would love to have an old LB7 instead of the HP of the LMM?
