Why does it seem GM is axing more cars than it is ok'ing...Those concept cars are not cheap to build.

Re: GM scraps plans for unibody pickup, Denali XT

so in all fairness i guess it would have been like the honda ridgeline but rear wheel drive? But how would it be for contractors and the alike that use trucks because they need to and not just for a run to the local sam's club for a 55 gallon drum of ketchup....

or what if gm fans dont take to a unit body. while we here are vocal about our views only a small percent of people usually post on line. Also they might have decided that if they producded it and it was a flop then it was money wasted that would have been used to do something else. I think they need to concentrate on small pickups and suvs

I feel like I'm the only one who thinks those Holden Sport Utes look ridiculous. They must look better in person or something...

Re: GM scraps plans for unibody pickup, Denali XT

I'll say it again - the future of the "1/2 ton" in terms of anything that is below 8500lbsGVWR is probably going to be in unit body.

Or they'll just make every Silvy or Sierra over 8500lbs GVWR - and completely duck out of CAFE.

I saw the analysis says that the economy and weight improvements are 'marginal' - but what is the standard? If you cut 10% of the weight that's a hefty 500lbs. I'm wondering if the fact that it has to be "1/2 ton" with real payload ability means they couldn't reduce the weight of drive train components and axles as much as they would on a passenger car.

Useless? Let's see:
LS2=check
Faster/quicker than a Dodge SRT Ram=check
Bigger load capability=check
Fuel economy of a car=check
Bigger load bed (longer, deeper)=yes
World's Fastest Ute=check
Handles like sportscar=check
Carry two dirtbikes or wetbikes=check

Yep, useless.

Cool looking or not, why should GM compete with a crappy "truck"? I agree with them canceling this.
Agree 100%. It's not a truck, a truck has a frame. Honda Ridgeline owners found this out when they thought they would load 'em up at Home Depot with patio stones and then wonder why the tailgate wouldn't close.

Ha ha. suckers.

That reminds me, I bought a house recently so I've been doing a lot of work, hauling stuff from the local Home Depot. I have an Xterra, and it's nice having a true BOF truck. I hauled 2000 lbs of rocks and had no problem.

BOF is just more practial for trucks, SUVs included. But then again, I think people should only buy SUVs if they take them off road and use them for things that require them. And I don't consider crossovers SUVs.

Re: GM scraps plans for unibody pickup, Denali XT

Amazing.
While I dont totaly like the idea of a Unibody truck for towing/hauling, a Unibody SUV platform is needed now more then ever.
Go back to the drawing board with the next generation Lambda. Longitudally mounted V6 and V8 engines, 6spd autos with AWD systems, advanced suspensions, and everything else.
Rreplace all GMT 900 7/8 seater full sized SUV's aka Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade with this, as well as bring in line the Traverse, Enclave, and Acadia.

I like small pickups too, I hope they make a comeback. I'd buy an AWD 4cyl light-duty small pickup, it wouldn't have to be full-on 4x4. (Kind of like a pickup based on a Subaru Impreza platform.) 6'-6'6" bed would be fine. Not sure you could do that with the Cruze platform. Anyway, has anyone heard anything about an HHR replacement perhaps based on the Cruze? An updated HHR with the Cruze's 1.4 turbo engine getting, say, 35-37MPG hwy would be very cool too.

The Ridgeline has a boxed frame with seven cross-members. Honda took their unibody minivan and crossover SUV vehicle platform and added a real truck frame to it.

I'd like to see documented proof Ridgeline owners put 1500 pounds or less (the rated tolerance) in the bed of their truck and it bent.
