GM: Hummer now Available in Kenya

GM finally launches the Hummer: IN KENYA!!!

GM finally launches the Hummer

Story by NATION Correspondent
Publication Date: 8/31/2007

The Hummer car, which caused a stir in Kenya when it was associated with a leading opposition MP, was officially launched yesterday by General Motors East Africa.
Kenya is now the second country after South Africa, to launch the car on the continent. First popularised by Lang’ata MP Raila Odinga, the Hummer bears features of US military vehicles, and will cost Sh6 million.

GM has a good foothold on Africa, as in an industrial base, long before anyone else

Hummer seems a perfect fit for the rugged terrain of N. Africa. Kind of suprised it took this long.

Kenya was the right place to launch the car. They have coffee money. They are #1 or #2 in the world as far highest grade for coffee. There will be a hand full of people that will be able to buy them.

Re: GM: Hummer now Available in Kenya

When I was in Africa (Burkina Faso) I drove a 26 years-old rusty land rover and breaking was minimal. Sometimes, I had to aim for a three for complete stop... I never pushed it over 30 km/h. Compare to that, an H3 is a luxury vehicle.

Re: GM: Hummer now Available in Kenya

It would be nice to see Hummers and Jeeps on the discovery channel instead of Land Cruisers.

They should go after all of the developing countries...

Is only the H3 available? What about the H2?

Re: GM: Hummer now Available in Kenya

H3's are built in South Africa, right?
I think this is a good starting point for GM internationally. All the more reason to get an H3 SUT out in the market, I think.

I'd love to go to Africa some day.

I am pretty sure that's available too.

Either way, I'd like to see Hummer in every market Land Rover or Land Cruiser is in.

They need to try to get themselves on television as much as possible so the whole world can learn to associate Hummer with humanitarian aid or safaris instead of the war in Iraq.
