GM CUTS SPENDING ON NEW GMT360's

Link: http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepu...-talker26.html

General Motors Corp. is cutting spending on the next versions of its Chevrolet TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy sport utility vehicles as buyers switch to models that are more fuel-efficient and drive more like cars.

The automaker is scaling back on the midsized models based on trucks, now the best-selling SUV segment, as it prepares new sport utility vehicles, such as the Buick Enclave, with more carlike designs, said spokesman Pat Morrissey. He declined to say how much the investment has been reduced.

I'm not surprised by this. The Lambda program is over-budget.

Oh well, the SUV's are becoming less and less popular.

I think he means by cutting spending? I guess if more money is directed towards the Lambda's that would be good. Still, the 360's are very important vehicles for GM...

Well, as long as the Lambda's are good..that's really what's important...Oh, and when are these new trucks supposed to come out again?

Ugh. Just what we need--MORE corner-cutting.

The TB and Envoy have the potential to be truly great vehicles--not just good, like they are, but GREAT. They could be just as good as the 900s, if not even better. Unfortunately GM doesn't seem to be interested in that. Looks like they're going for "good enough" again.

finally, some sense has been knocked into them. Ditch the SUVs and focus on products that are more crucial to long term success.

I don't understand. They finally took the top seller title from the Explorer in 05. Shouldn't they ride that breeze while the wind is in the sails?

Simmer down there pal. From what I had heard, the new 360's were quite the SUV's. The interiors are supposedly better than the 900's, but we shall see.

I would MUCH rather see them cutting the 360's than any of the car or crossover lines. But as far as I'm concerned, they can ax the 360's. Ford and Dodge are both pondering bringing the Explorer and Durrango to crossover platforms.

A base Tahoe would be cheaper to sell than a ground-up new 360.

It appears that the MPG ratings would be about the same.

Why not stick a six cylinder in the Tahoe and test the market?

Remember, it's a new GM - No longer do they have the funds to be everything to everyone.

2008 model-year. Only the Trailblazer and Envoy. Not 50 different flavors like right now.

They're smart to trim the models down. When will pictures be released? What about the 9-7..that's going to be replaced..on Lambda, right?
