I take my stock half ton out to the (silver lake) sand dunes all the time and it does everything. If you just looked at all the rigs out there, youd see that half tons are the truck of choice for hill climbing and mudding there, the only thing better are the gas powered 2500 HDs. Diesels suck for mudding and hillclimbing, my 250 horse vortec will put a stock diesel to shame on the slopes. big framed diesels are meant for towing, if anything i dont understand why people lift those, however im not about to call them out on it.
And if you really wanted to go offroading you'd lift a jeep, not a full-size truck.

If they want an off road vehicle, fine, then they should keep it off road. If they want to drive on streets and highways, they need to think about other people and what will happen in a wreck. Their fault or not, wrecks do happen, and ignoring the bumper mis-match means not caring who gets hurt by damage which could have been avoided.

These "lift kit" companies sell an incomplete package, as they also need to provide components to allow the bumpers to be raised for off-road use and lowered for on-road use.

Good concept but thats a utopian idea that will never work. Your never going to get all the bumper heights on the road the same.

A body lift is the only type of lift that relocates the bumper in relation to the frame. They are half-ass lifts that gain you no ground clearance, and only allow room for bigger tires. Most people who use these cheap lifts do it for the look, so they are not going to want to hang their bumpers below where they should be.

A real suspension lift has nothing to do with the bumpers.

If lift companies made relocation brackets that lowered the bumpers, guess how many people would buy them? Zero. I took my bumpers off to rust proof them and it took me over an hour a piece to get each one off. Sorry but no one is going to deal with that everytime they want to take their truck on the street. Offroaders build their rigs to be able to do everything without adjustment. There are laws already in place for legal bumper heights. If you dont think those laws are adequate, get out a pen and paper and write the person who can change it. Even if the laws are changed though people arent going to unlift their truck. Theyre not going to give up their hard work.

As usual im going to take the contrary black sheep point of view on it. If cars were made as solid as they used to be bumper heights wouldnt be as much of a problem. They only are a problem because they lay waste to many of the the [overly] "impact absorbant" designs we are using today. A truck cant function as a truck if its bumper height is equivalent to a car. While you might be in more danger in an accident with a lifted truck, the person that was driving it is also safer. The people who spend money on safe vehicles arent going to want to give up their own safety for someone elses. Everyone has an equal right to choose the safety level of the vehicle they drive.

Your signature sums this up very well

The 'lift kit" companies could devise some sort of adjustable bumpers which do not require using tools, perhaps using sliding brackets secured with movable pins, or a combination of sliding brackets and a hydrualic system.

The bumpers on new vehicles are designed to be better matched in height.

The rights of the driver of the modified vehicle stop where the rights of the driver and passengers of the non-modified vehicle begin.

perhaps you dont understand the market for lift kits. anyone who is concerned about bumper height safety isnt going to lift a truck. People who lift trucks want their bumpers high to keep them safe during off roading. Many of them even cheap on the suspension parts and just use spacers because they want the look more than the function. If people are going that cheap for the look, they arent going to spend 30% more on a kit with adjustable bumpers, that only detracts from the image they were going for with the kit.

and thats exactly my complaint. the new trucks look like they would need an appointment with the paint booth if they drove through some light brush.

Lower bumpers may be great for you, but to me its just one step closer to trucks turning into cars.

I think all of these lifted Chevy & GMC trucks look awesome...my only question is how do you get up in them? I'm a 28 year old 6'1" man and without the GM chrome side bars on my stock suspension new body style 2007 GMC Sierra Denali AWD (just like the one in my signature), it would be a little bit of a jump to get into my truck, let alone if it was lifted 8 inches plus the larger tires.
