Baltimore, Doraville, Wilmington, Flint, Rochester, Tonawanda, Moraine, Shreveport, Kokomo, Dayton, Janesville, etc... the legacy of Red Ink Rick continues. it's not only a crime what he has done, it's a crime how stupid people let him get away with it. at least the UAW took payoffs, the shareholders were just plain stupid. now America pays the price for the evil of Wagoner.

Re: End of an era- GM Midsize Utes done 12/23/08

I thought the Envoy/Trailblazer was the biggest piece of crap GM truck had ever built.

The jury is still out but the Enclave/Acadia is well on the way to pushing it out of my number one spot.

6 recalls/bulletins right off the bat, every Acadia sunroof leaks/ rebuilt or replaced several trannies already, had two buybacks because we and GM engineers (flew in) couldn't figure out why engine idle could not be stabilized.

I started in this business in 1977, and I think I've earned the right to say I'm sick and tired of GM bringing vehicles to market that aren't ready to sell.

I haven't seen many acadias or enclaves coming back here for repair work. how many has your store sold compared to how many have come back.

What a shame. I still think it is the best mid-size sport utility out there. It took all competitors years (yes years) to catch up to the horsepower the Trailblazer has. I love the tight turning radius and it has been trouble free. A very reliable vehicle.

I agree. We test drove vehicles with similar capabilities ( we wanted to tow 3000-4000lbs) and the Trailblazer won hands down. It's easy to drive, not to big, not to small. It's a shame GM abandoned them. I guess things needed to be cut. Pretty funny though, they cut them for Lambda's to provide yet another 8 passenger vehicle.

I guess all good things end....

Now, if only they would take the Lambda...have one of them shortened to make it a 5 seater. It might reduce the weight a bit, give it a different look...and with the reduction in weight possibly a slight increase in performance and MPG, and at least a couple hundred dollars less in price. For those of us who want something bigger than a Vue or Equinox but don't want/need 7 passenger size.

Re: End of an era- GM Midsize Utes done 12/23/08

This was foreseen when the lambda's came out. It was confirmed for certain last Spring when gas went to $4+ a gallon all over the country. Ford has already announced the death of the quintessential midsized BOF, the Explorer, over a year ago when it said that the new model would be a crossover ( if it ever comes out at all ). Ditto the FJ, Pathfinder, soon the Aspen and prolly the Durango.

The only one left will be the 4Runner and that's not to certain to stay around.

The Big BOF SUVs will likely remain for the few wealthy enough to afford the fuel and what will be a relatively high price.

You either have to overhaul them or get rid of them.

I'm ok with getting rid of them.

Re: End of an era- GM Midsize Utes done 12/23/08

Until about 30 days ago we haven't sold an Acadia with a sunroof that didn't leak like a sieve. I believe the Enclave comes out of a different factory, so that would explain the Enclave sunroof not leaking.

Immediately after the Acadia debut we found the sunroofs all poured water. We took the first one apart, found the sunroof drains were all cut too short. We sent GM engineering high quality digital pics and explanation of what the problem was.

Now, 2 model years later they decide to come out with a recall. 2 more years of unnecessarily leaking sunroofs with pissed off customers who may have spent forty grand giving GM another chance.

As for how many we sell, somewhere around thirty Acadias and eight Enclaves a month.

I can't list all the bulletins and recalls here, but they have to be a record. Power Steering noises that they want to fix with synthetic fluid. Replaced an intake at 7000 miles.

The aforementioned idle problem took hours of tech time, hours on the phone with technical assistance, and 2 engineers hands on for three days before they and Detroit admitted they couldn't fix it. The customer was in a rental over two weeks.

Folks, a Vega didn't have the problems we have now.

Shame they weren't updated and maintained. Our family has had several Envoys and they were excellent vehicles.

I must say, you sound like one of those people on the streets yelling doom and gloom. The world is going to end bah blah blahhhh...
What else was supposed to happen to this plant? People aren't buying SUVs like that anymore.

If they're built at the same plant why does the Enclave VIN start with a 5, and the Acadia start with a 1?
