I have an 03- great vehicle.
In combined city/hwy I get 18 MGP.
the highway part is usually Los Angeles rush hour stop and go.
On some long highway trips Ive managed 24 MPG.
Fully loaded with passengers and cargo- 20 MPG doing 69.....
Plenty of power when I need it.

My father in law gets the same mileage with his trailblazer. The good MPG is there you just have to keep your foot out of it. I get 16-18MPG on the highway with my SS. The only thing that I would change would be add a 6L80 to it, and some more highway friendly gears...for the SS anyways...maybe the for I6 models too, how many RPMS do they spin on the highway?
If people are able to get over 20MPG on the highway with a four speed and 3:42 gears in the I6 models, You could give it more highway gear like 3:08's and the 6L80's super low first and second will take care of the towing. That would be a nice little combo...ESPECIALLY for the SS model. My SS has a 4:10 gear in the rear...and spins a pretty good amount of RPM's on the highway..the first time my friend drove it on the highway he asked me "is this thing going to shift man?"

I can't say that I am surprised. With the Lambadas, the Trailblazer/Envoy were just taking up space needlessly.

Re: End of an era- GM Midsize Utes done 12/23/08

I posted this over at "Trailvoy" a few days ago, but it's worth repeating.

Very unfortunate and stupid move GM. I've been a long-term supporter (and customer), but this is a dumb move - another good product you're about to piss down the drain.

By cancelling this vehicle, you're basically abandoned the mid size SUV segment. As you did with the minivan. Now you're going to focus on small cars, and become a psuedo Honda car maker? Who is going to buy them? By the time you get there, the market will have changed, and people will being buying trucks and SUV's again. This decision is short-sighted and will backfire in the long run. The Trailblazer has outsold most of the other midsize (and even fullsize) SUVs since it's introduction - and remains a decent selling product. I have no confidence that GM will ever make a turn around with moronic decisions like this. If GM fails, then good riddance.....this decision speaks for itself

BOF SUV's that people stop buying and has too pass CAFE law's in the future , which is not going away and people are mad. There are going too be a lot of manufactures in the future moveing away from BOF SUV's. All Gm's SUV's wouldn't be unibody, but they have too find away to get the weight down. These next Gen Lambda platforum will be much lighter, these TE-Theta platforum comeing out now is much lighter. These New 2010 SAAB 9-4x I belive has a weight of around 3,100-3,200, on these TE-Theta platforum.

A friend of mine that works as a paramedic with me used to own a 02 Oldsmobile Bravada he loved it, it never once gave him a problem he said that it was one of the best vehicles he had ever owned. It had 124,000K miles on it when he traded it in. He now owns a 2008 GMC Acadia.

Or perhaps he meant 01?
There is every chance that he is talking about one of the last of the S platform TrailBlazers. When TB and Envoy were the highest trim level models of the Blazer and Jimmy, before the GMT360s came out.

Re: End of an era- GM Midsize Utes done 12/23/08

I was really Hyped when the Envoy/Trail Blazer came out. They drove "So Much Better" than the S Blazer/Jimmy they replaced.

The 4.2L was way smoother and the "Autotrac" was seamless and stable.

Then the "Park Assist Mirrors" Rain Sencing Wipers, would give out, The "Air Ride" would give out, and so on with the electrics.

Now after taking 3 of them on trade on Exploderers an such, I can expect a Transfercase replacement in 2 of them. Shameful at best. (not that Exploder's are much better)

I once had such hope for the"New" 360's but now I have shame in them. "Too Strong" more like a "Hey they aren't a bad vehicle"

I agree, and although the 4.3l V6 in the Silverado is sufficient, I think that if they were to put the 4.2l I6 in there it would be a popular option. Power and fuel economy to beat out the 4.8l V8. I do have bias, I have owned 2 Atlas Engines before and I love them.

Sad to see the Trailblazer go, I understand but doesn't make it better. Too bad they let it get too stale over the years, it had promise.

Just like the Rainier did. Still built in the same Lansing plant. Read the window sticker. It tells you where the vehicle was produced.

My wife drives a 5 year old Trailblazer. Never in the shop for repairs. Never. Still drives like new and looks like a truck, not some jelly bean that some folks on this site slobber over.

I'm sick and tired of you people:

(1) Electing politicians who raise the CAFE, and then

(2) Complaining when car makers obey the law.

If you don't want GM selling vehicles with an average fuel economy rating of 35 mpg, then elect new people into Congress. In a democracy, you get what you deserve.
