Edmunds' Long Term 2007 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab
I could have sworn I saw a thread on it, but couldn't find it again. Wow, Edmunds has lost all respect from me by forcing an ad while trying to link to one of their articles. Anyway here is the text: Quote:

Re: Edmunds' Long Term 2007 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab
gm actually had a recall on those trannies, so the fact taht the didnt get theirs into the shop before it fell out is their own doing. i think what was happening was people were losing reverse.

Re: Edmunds' Long Term 2007 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab
Definitely NOT good when a auto publication has to have the transmission refurbished 2 times in a year and a half with some major parts busted. It seems like in the late 90's and early 00's these were a problem transmission but I hadn't heard of problems the last few years so much. Too bad. Hopefully the 6-speeds are robust, as far as I know they are.

This is unusual as GM's 4 speeds have always been fairly reliable. Even if there was a recall Edmunds ignored, this is still not good for GM. Transmission failure is unacceptable.

Re: Edmunds' Long Term 2007 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab
1. The transmission on my 2001 Impala broke at 125,000 miles, and I had all scheduled maintenance done. One of my friends had to replace the transmission on his Chevy Trailblazer at 45,000 miles.
2. Even if Edmunds did not do the recall themselves, the dealership should certainly have made them aware of the recall and installed it. |

Re: Edmunds' Long Term 2007 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab
The 6.0 is not tied up to the 4L60E. I know because I have that engine. It's tied to the M70, a heavy duty 4 speed. There was a TSB on the transmission because they changed the programming of the shifting. Even mine shifted funny between 1-2, but after the reprogram it shifts smooth and crisp now. And I sometimes drive hard, with no hiccups from my tranny. In fact I stoplight raced a Tundra and last gen Escalade EXT this week and smoked em both.
I place the blame on edmunds, they obviously abused the hell out of that transmission before going for the update. And what the heck, I'm sure a few out of hundreds of thousands of trucks sold are going to get a bad tranny, regardless of manufacturer. Doesnt matter anyway, the 6 speed used now is flawless and strong.

Correct, it is either the 4L65E or 4L70E (can't remember) which really isn't much different from the 4L60E other than some beefed up parts. Glad the 6-speeds are here.

My 2006 tranny went last year on our way to Thanksgiving. I was so proud to be a GM owner that day. I'm just glad it was covered under warranty!!

Um, if you read in the article, Edmunds complained about the gearbox twice to GM and had them look at it before it went. So technically, it's not Edmunds fault. Then again, you got the Toyota Tundra in Edmunds fleet and it's getting alot of editorial abuse as well. I can see it still has its original tranny and camshafts

Re: Edmunds' Long Term 2007 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab
i sent a nasty email to edmunds on this article
first, they way overpay for a full size truck which they should have been able to buy cheaper. then, they sell it when gas is 4 bucks. NO DUH. you're not gonna get anything. plus, they sell it in an area of the country where people pay less then they would in the midwest, etc. then they rip the GM for losing a transmission but hold up the tundra as their favorite. the same tundra with crumpling tailgates, bed bounce, engine schrapnel, and massive cash on the hood (10k? and equally poor resale). edmunds looks like a bunch of fools. i cannot fault them for making a point of a faulty tranny in the full size chevy, but to make it sound like the big fatal flaw.....cmon, get the new tranny and shut up. evaluate the whole truck on more than just a transmission. and to use the TURD as the gold standard? that alone exposes edmunds as the amateur operation they are. |
