Now there's a shocker. Other than the Silverado, I think the Elantra is the only one deserving such a coveted spot.

I think the real reason the Silverado beat the Tundra was because of it's superior styling.
It's amusing to me that Toyota has a bad reliability rep with the Tundra.

As much as I think it's stupid, GM needs to crack the CR code. Whatever stupid rules they use to test reliability, then GM needs to ace those. Like it or not, the uninformed buying public still reads this magazine.

Everyone on GMI are enthusiast...so we probably get our info based on a more credible source, like ourselves, or a test drive. CR is for people who think that cars are appliances, and in some ways they are..(Camry, Highlander, Sonata, and like it or not, Malibu). CR readers are not the same people posing in GMI, Toyota nation, car and driver, or autoweek.

Apparently, base models of cars had to have ESC in order for CR to put those vehicles on this list. Did they apply that standard to Pickups? Does the Silverado have ESC even on the base level trims?

I wouldnt trust consumers opinion even if comes down to something as simple as a toaster. The Silverado making Consumer's top ten is irrelevent to me.

Still an apparent bias there. I think they're just coming to grips with removing their "automatic recommended buy" status from all Toyotas.

Wow, 9 out of 10 of the cars were from Asian manufacturers. Amazing.

Re: Consumer Reports Top 10 vehicles, Silverado!

They do hate to give praise to the Big3. And when they do they almost always follow up with a critical remark.

For Chrysler they held back no punches and beat up on the lame 3 headed dog. no mercy whatsoever. Evidently they didn't like the new minivans.

They said Silverado beat out turdra because it had torque converter problems and then let a toyotanic representive say all those problems have been fixed. It's almost as if saying, ignore the rating, its an abberation. They also said right after that GM had on 30% of their models recommended this year down from 36% last year.

Then with Ford they said they have 64% of their models are recommended up from 54% last year...but their models lack charisma? Oh and the rubbermaid element, the femmeline, the fugly accurd, Saturn Ion inspired civic, and the mis-assembled front-end crv have charisma? The hairlip catfish snout on the turdra, sequoia and highlander have charisma? the camry, corolla,yawnis...your kidding me right? Maybe charisma is when the doors fall off of your sienna. I don't want that kind of charisma. Maybe charisma = appliance.

BTW how did the sienna get the top minivan when the side and rear doors are falling off?

CR is a bunch of crap, regardless of them putting the Silvy on their list or not. It's a such a terrible magazine for reviewing cars. Blenders, fine, clothes washer, sure why not...but they shouldn't be allowed to talk about cars. Such drivel they write about. They sound a lot like your typical Canadian automotive journalist.

True enough, except I'm not sure they can crack the code by building more reliable vehicles. The intangibles always seem to favor foreign makes. That's why there seems to be overt hostility toward them on this site.

I'm getting the impression that there are more non enthusiasts on this site all the time. Aside from our crew of usual suspects who couldn't say anything nice about GM to save their lives, I've noticed some who would love nothing more than to see all things automotive cease to exist.

And American journalists too.

BTW, I love the styling on your truck.

Hehe - you beat me too it. Think of all the denunciations we've seen of CR.

Consumers just did this with the new CTS as well---they recommend it but as usual they needed to wrap-it-up with a negative comment.

Me too. I think the new Silverado front end looks like ass in chrome, but the painted ones I've seen look very nice.

I agree completely. Funny how excess chrome can completely ruin the looks.

Re: Consumer Reports Top 10 vehicles, Silverado!

BTW...what is the CR reliability rating on the Silverado?

I noticed that the Tahoe was really good last year but bombed this year. Considering there are 0 model changes, I cry foul.
