Re: CNET article on new GMC Yukon Hybrid, with photos and diagrams

I didnt like the Yukon Hybrids front fascia at first, but now that I see it in these pics, I like it more.... Futuristic looking....

Looks good. Gets the whole Hybrid point across, and also differentiates it so people dont have to squint to see if it has a Hybrid badge on it or not to determine if it is a Hybrid......like other GM hybrids....

Very good explanation of the vehicle and it's technology. I think this would be excellent to send out to people in mailers.

From the summary:
Quote:
The hybrid will be less than 100 pounds heavier than the standard Yukon, and will come with a lower price tag than the top-of-the range gasoline-only Yukon.
This is very smart. It's just another option.

I reall y like the fact that none of the electrical system is powered by the engine. Kind of takes the guilt out of using the A/C.

Note how they haven't said that line about the Tahoe Hybrid - it's probably going to be below a Denali but above everything else (which is fine, IMO, if it also comes with all the SLT-like luxury goodies).

This is the first time I remember seeing one with bodyside moldings. Every other Tahoe or Yukon hybrid I've seen hasn't had them.

I'm glad to see GM putting all this technology into a hybrid people will want and and not into some weird looking econobox like Toyota prius and Honda insight.

I hope it has bullet proof reliability because its got a lot of electronics in it.

I didn't realize that the powerpack is Li-Ion. Or so says the article.

I do like that they stated it gets 40% better city mileage. That should bring in a lot of customers looking for a large SUV who worried about mileage. This brings it up in terms of mileage close to something a large sedan would do. Pretty impressive.

I do notice they screwed up AFM saying it shuts down 4 valves instead of cylinders.

This could be good. I think this Two mode system would make more sence in Acadia, Outlook and Enclave. I think it would get much better milage then a Taho. But hopefully gm will put this system as an option in every vehicle that they sell soon.

I'm certain that's the plan. But it's also obvious they're putting the system into those vehicles that are taking the biggest eco-hit in the media. Then they'll work their way down. Smart move, in my opinion.

I'm hoping for a v8 2-mode Camaro! That would rock! It'll drive the greens nuts!

You see the box with the ORANGE cable going into it. That is the TPIM, aka "Power Electronics" it goes down about 4 more inches into the bay that you can't see.

Close up.

It would be cool if it was Li-Ion but I've got to believe it was a mis-print.

Has anyone heard if this will go in the Suburban and Yukon XL? I've never read it but it seems hard to believe they wouldn't if they are going to put them in the Tahoe/Yukon and Silverado/Sierra.

I'd like to get a Suburban someday but only if it is a hybrid or a diesel. I think I'd prefer the hybrid most of the time.

These are great. Problem is we won't make money on them. Not the cash cow they need to be.

Re: CNET article on new GMC Yukon Hybrid, with photos and diagrams

The article says "60 watt" motor. haha that is funny. I think they forgot the kilo-prefix.

There are a couple other technical errors too. I'm surprised CNET didn't catch that.
