Re: Chevrolet Tahoe arrives in Japan

The Sequoia just looks fat and bloated. Just like the turdra.
Tahoe's much better.
I for one would love to watch their expressions while cruising around Tokyo in a Suburban . It'd be pretty amusing.

How about Australia, something to take the battle to Toyota.

Re: Chevrolet Tahoe arrives in Japan

Why? Do they not know that vehicles that size wont sell there? Even if someone wanted one, it wouldn't fit on their streets anyway. Stupid.

I find it interesting that on the chevrolet jp homepage (not the site listed), they only display the trailblazer and no other car.

A Tahoe in Japan would be like a fish out of water.
We were in the Cotswolds in England 2 years ago and there was a
Dodge Ram Crew Cab w/ Cummins Turbo Diesel trying to drive down one of the streets.
It was the craziest thing your ever saw. Completely out of proportion to it's surroundings.

Re: Chevrolet Tahoe arrives in Japan

<-- Lived in Japan for two years...

In Japan you have to prove that you have a place to park your car before you are allowed to buy it. The only exception is for ultra small Kei cars. I'm guessing you have to prove you have 4 parking spaces for a Tahoe.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Tahoe (the Sequoia looks like crap) but you can't even drive it in most of Japan. This is a country where they still have single lane "two way" bridges. Many American CARS can't even fit on those bridges. A buddy of mine actually ruined his Crown Vic going across the Sagami river near Camp Zama.

My Inlaws have an older Skyline Sedan and my Father In Law has a heck of a time just getting it into his driveway. I've seen drive ways so small that a Mini Cooper looked huge in it.

I guess the Yakuza might like them though

In the main streets of Tokyo and other major cities you'd be ok but even the main streets of smaller towns would pose a problem for a Tahoe. My In-Laws live in a small town about 50 miles south of Tokyo called Hadano. It would fit but you don't have much room for error...

Semi truckers in Japan only drive at night when there are no other cars on the road because they can't fit and they could clog traffic. I think a Tahoe might be just about as wide as one of those semi's (Japanese semi's are a bit smaller than American ones, as you might imagine)

Re: Chevrolet Tahoe arrives in Japan

Go to Kabukicho in Shinjuku and there are Yakuza-owned Bimmers and Mercedes galore, and they are parked wherever they please. The police gave up ticketing them, or are paid off to not notice this, or at least that's the way it was some years back when I lived there.

Every once and a while over the 9 years or so I lived there I would see a big vehicle on the streets in Tokyo, but it seems that the whole Astro craze and big SUV thing is more of a niche thing for weekend (or midnight, as Sgt. Beavis suggests) cruising. Take them down to the beach, show them off, and park them the rest of the week.

No one in their right mind would seriously attempt to commute in a Tahoe in Japan. Not in the cities, at least.

No Japanese in their right mind commutes in a car period.

The train system is just too damn good...

However I really do hate the Tokyo subway stations. I got a concussion from hitting my head on the ceiling so damn much. I'm 6' 2" but geez that not really super tall....
