Re: Chevrolet Tahoe arrives in Japan

* They have a cult following (similar GM vehicles) in Japan.

* They WILL make money on them...Why not when demand is slackening here.

* The Sequia came out two years after, so it should be better. Funny thing is when comparing similar models, it still gets worse gas mileage.

* This is not a huge announcement, just a decision to a) make money and b) please the market in the coutnry. Nothing wrong with either.

BTW, I always love when peopel start exclaiming how "everyone doesn't want big SUVs" anymore. Funny how they say that after the sold like a gazillion of them at huge profit margins and STILL make a boat load of cash on each, even if the discount them. The saved GM.

Then again, these are the same people who yap about the economy being crap, but fail to mention that it was on fire for a record number of years, individual tax rates at their lowest ever, unemployment under the 30-year average, average family wealth (which counters the personal debt they always talk about), etc. You cannot just throw out b.s. without comparing it to something, seeing the bigger picture.

There is someone who actually knows about Japan a little.

The Yakusa, Japanese mafia, favored Cadillacs for a long time to show they were the counter culture to the Toyota Crowns (like Crown Vic here) of the world. They have since switched to HUGE Mercedea (S500, etc.) and sometimes 7-series BMWs. These are huge cars, btu still sell in Japan. The Sequia is HUGE and bulbous, but Toyota seems to a) make it and b) sell it in Japan. The Tahoe will sell and make a profit.

Tahoe > Sequoia

The Tahoe looks very modern, especially the interior. The Sequioa is nothing to write home about.

(There is nothing inherantly wrong with the Sequoia - it is a nice SUV - but to say it makes the Tahoe look 10 years old is absurd. The Tahoe looks fantastic as well as modern!)

I am convinced that 70% of the people on this site are complete morons, the other 30% are halfway there.
And the reason for the other 30% being halfway there is due to "intelligent" comments like this!!!!!

Re: Chevrolet Tahoe arrives in Japan

What's with the Sequoia and Tahoe comparison?

Toyota doesn't even sell the Sequoia (and Tundra) in Japan.

The general Japanese masses don't even know what a "Toyota Sequoia" looks like.

AFAIK, the Sequoia and Tundra are sold in North America only.

One of my friends just bought a Sequoia....not a very nice looking thing actually, I wasn't really impressed with it at all. The thing that really caught my eye was the gap around the A-pillar to instrument panel, it was HUGE! I saw nothing of the Toyota superior quality that everyone raves about.

I wouldn't buy a Tahoe either.

Hardly. The Tahoe looks like a Tonka toy.

It looks great... until you hit the A-pillars.

Hey, GM.... flush side glass? Ever heard of it? It was invented, erm, over two decades ago. The doors, especially the rear ones, are tiny in proportion to the vehicle's overall size. The Suburban looks much better because it's so much better proportioned. The Tahoe looks exactly like what the original GMT400 model was: a Suburban that looked as though it were squeezed by King Kong from both ends.

The body is boxy, square, and lego-like; no more modern than my Mom's old Volvo 850 T5 Wagon. The Suburban and Avalanche work much, much better.

It's not that the Tahoe is unattractive, not by any means... it just looks more 1999 than 2009. It doesn't look any more modern than the GMT800s, just different.

The fact that GM chose to just redraw body lines of a twenty-year-old design, rather than create an entirely new family of SUVs shows the company's ill-ability to produce well-designed products.

I'm sorry, but I saw a new Sequoia out on the road a few days ago, and mistook it for an old Sequoia... it actually took some second-glances to realize it wasn't old.

...there's NO mistaking a new Tahoe for an older one. From any angle.
