2010 GMC Terrain Spied Again

http://www.leftlanenews.com/gmc-terrain.html

Quote:
As of late, General Motors has been spreading its SUV wealth pretty evenly among all of its brands. Buick, GMC and Saturn all have SUVs based on GM’s Lambda platform — the Enclave, Acadia and Outlook, respectively — and Chevrolet will soon get its own Lambda-based vehicle in the form of the Chevrolet Traverse. And GM’s SUV platform-sharing only looks to be spreading, as evidenced by these latest photos.

By the looks this latest prototype, it appears that a second variation of GM’s revamped Theta platform — which will underpin the next-generation Chevrolet Equinox — has now begun testing. Dubbed the GMC Terrain, the new SUV will replace the Pontiac Torrent.

The grille shape visible through the front mesh looks to be a large, blocky opening, as is par for the course for GMC vehicles. This particular prototype looks to have a mesh grille, indicating it could be a test vehicle for a range-topping Denali trim level. The headlight design stretches horizontally, as opposed to the Cadillac BRX’s vertical headlight clusters, and the Terrain looks as though it will have a flat roofline — as opposed to the BRX’s sloped roofline — for improved cargo space.

GM already unveiled a “Terrain” at the Kuwait Auto Show last year, but that model was nothing more than a GMC-badged Saturn Vue for overseas markets. It’s clear from these shots that this U.S.-market model will get unique sheetmetal to distinguish itself from its platform-sharing brethren. We expect GMC’s new SUV to bow sometime in 2009 as a 2010 model, with pricing starting in the low $20,000 range.

GMs response to dying SUV and truck sales is to bring more to market.

Re: 2010 GMC Terrain Spied Again

It looks about as aerodynamic as my Safari...

I think in GM's quest to prove that a GMC crossover does not need to be car-like, they went a bit too far with the upright, check out my macho grille thing.

GM may be focusing more on crossovers, but this one looks like a crossover whose development predates any concern for fuel economy.

Then again, some of my favorite 3-cylinder Kei vans have brick like aerodynamics...

Looks more like our answer to the Explorer if you were going on shape and general size...

Would you like them to bring none to the market and just hand it over to Honda, Toyota, etc

This is a small SUV and small SUV's will do well--especially ones that are freshly designed.

While small SUVs do well, this is not a small SUV. The Terrain and Equinox are supposed to move UP in size.

So, while these may look like nice trucks, people will see a large vehicle and run from it fearing large fuel bills. GM needs to trim some weight off the VUE and spread that platform across other divisions if it wants to succeed.

The front end looks like a brickwall. That is about as aerodynamic as a Peterbuilt.

It looks like there is a big pad at the front edge of the hood. I don't think it is as butch as some of you suggest.

Not everyone looks at fuel mileage as the most important selling point. Some people just need the larger vehicle and fuel mileage is secondary. Sure it is better to have a truck that gets 20 mpg compared to 12-15mpg but that is not necessarily their biggest concern.

well considering the way the Vue turned out and the Equinox is just a chevy version of that. This thing isn't going to be that big. Those vue's are pretty tiny but are better looking than that horrid escape. A guy on my frontier forum just got his and ddnt like it at all and step to a 4x4 frontier.

Thats true, Suv's and trucks are made to be driven and hold cargo and people. These aren't suppose to be 26+ mpg greenies that u can feel self-righteous about. These things are made for a taking care of business and i hope it stay's that way.
