2010 GMC Terrain Not Planned to Get Diesel or Denali Version
From Edmund's Inside Line...
Susan Docherty did a deep dive into the Terrain during a Web chat on the corporate GM FastLane blog, responding to questions by consumers. She said there are "no current plans for a Denali version" of the Terrain, contradicting an earlier report from GM that it was considering such a move. She also said there are "no plans for a diesel version at this time." |

Re: 2010 GMC Terrain Not Planned to Get Diesel or Denali Version
Heh. Edmunds apparently did not have anyone in the journalist-only chat with Susan that I attended last week. She said they are looking into a Terrain Denali; that they are "still doing their homework on it."
I think we'll see one. She made it clear in the journalist chat that the Denali lineup is critical to the brand.

Re: 2010 GMC Terrain Not Planned to Get Diesel or Denali Version
I also think a Denali is in the cards. If they have Yukon, Sierra, and the upcoming Acadia Denali, then why hold out on a Terrain Denali? Afraid it might step on the heels of the SRX? Won't step on a Buick.
If its worth anything, the sales manager at my local GMC dealer said there would be a Terrain Denali and eventually a 3.6L V6 DI option as well. If I could get that kind of SUV, I'd be sold. I loved the Vue XR with the 3.6. It would be even better as a Terrain.

This gets a resounding, "Well, duh!" They don't even have a diesel to put in the Terrain. What, are they supposed to shoehorn the Duramax in sideways?

45% of Yukon sales are Denalis according to Susan.

Re: 2010 GMC Terrain Not Planned to Get Diesel or Denali Version
I would rather see GM make a bold move like introducing a light duty diesel option (3.0L diesel) as opposed to a Denali trim option. Having a diesel option would set it apart from all the other competitors. They would be the only mid-size SUV with that sort of configuration (outside the more expensive Toureg and ML bluetec.)
I can understand that from a numbers perspective doing a Denali trim probably has more immediate, financial upside potential (low cost to manufacture generating a big return in terms of sales price.) In terms of doing a diesel it could have a more substantial image potential but it might not generate a return for quite some time. I would prefer the focus to be on a diesel powertrain as opposed to a trim option. |

Re: 2010 GMC Terrain Not Planned to Get Diesel or Denali Version
I was surprised and skeptical when Docherty said on the webchat Monday that a Denali model wasn't planned.

The sales manager likely is talking based in speculation. We stock a higher percent than that in Yukon and XL. haha, yeah that would suck. |

Well when the Acadia came out there was never going to be a Denali, here it comes....I just wish the black cherry would come back!! I really liked it in the older Yukon/Seirra Denali

Re: 2010 GMC Terrain Not Planned to Get Diesel or Denali Version
The diesel answer was kind of an answer to a question nobody expected. I never thought a diesel would be part of the lineup. Besides, a 3.0 would probably be overkill for the Terrain. A four-cylinder turbodiesel would probably be more appropriate. A 3.0L-sized V6 diesel would be a nice option for the Acadia.
