2007 Two-Mode Hybrid SUVs

GM/DCX/BMW Dual Hybrid

Click on the following link for a description of the hybrid power system going into the 2007 Tahoe and Yukon SUVs. This system will provide an estimated 25% fuel economy gain.

Re: 2007 Two-Mode Hybrid SUVs

Pretty awesome. I was itching to ask this question: Does GM get royalities if they allow DaimlerChysler and BMW and that other Chinese company to use their hybrid system? After all, didn't GM patent thousands of parts and now allowing other companies to use their system? I know that they're spliting up the development costs, but its still GM's idea to use a dual hybrid system.

Bing co-developed BMW and DaimlerChysler should have access to the GM Hybrid patents and designs. GM would also have access to applicable BMW and DaimlerChysler patents and designs.

That hybrid system sounds good. Can't wait for them to start selling. I do think GM's two-mode hybrid is better than toyota's hybrid system but I wish they weren't so late to market.

Hmm, the article says it works with Vortec motors, I wonder if they provide the system with Vortec motors (probably in exchange for something else) but then the Durango will have a Vortec (like the Redline Vue uses the Honda motor...)!!??

I imagine the transmission, controllers, and battery packs may be common, but I would think that the engine would be pretty interchangable, so I doubt will see Vortec powered Dodges anytime soon.

That is amazing technology. It's simple, inexpensive and efficient. 25% for a fullsize SUV is stellar. Therefore a Tahoe 4x4 5.3L V8 will jump from 20.5 combined fuel economy to 25.625. Awesome, very awesome. That might just be on my shopping list in the near future then...

As would I. I think the 5.3 VVT will match up about as well as the 5.7 Hemi. I would assume each company will have the computers programed to work in their own manner, IE BMW engines tuned for more performance, GM trucks and Rams for more torque, RWD cars (LXs & Zegmas) for economy/performance.

From what I've heard (surprsingly), the two-mode hybrid in the full-sized trucks will use the 6.0L rather than the 5.3L. I guess time will tell, but maybe the 6.0L will be able to spend even more time in 4-cylinder mode than the 5.3L will at cruise, and with the full-hybrid capabilities on the low end shutting off the engine more, the difference in fuel consumption between the 5.3L and 6.0L maybe be largely negated.

Re: 2007 Two-Mode Hybrid SUVs

From what I've read, it's adaptable with a wide variety of engines. Teaming up to develop the hybrid system saves money for everybody and speeds up the delivery time to the customer. Now hopefully I will be able to get it teamed with a medium displacement desiel I-6 with a 6-speed manual in a H3... don't worry, i'm not getting my hopes up :~)

Re: 2007 Two-Mode Hybrid SUVs

This is very good news. GM needs to advertise this, and put it on more than just the SUV's. A Hybrid Ion/Cobalt, Aura/Malibu, and Impala/LaCrosse, would do alot to help boost GM image and help to show that GM can make vehicles that are just as advanced as the Japanese counterparts.

It would also take away the rational by the retards in the White House, that the reason GM is in trouble is because it "doesn't offer fuel effiecent vehicles."

IF and when they do advertise it, I'm sure their ads will probably say "Hybrid" and show a picture of the truck and a few words about it. Kind of like the new Lucerne ads just talk about heated windshield washer fluid, and other models tend to focus on one minute detail like stabilitrack instead of talking up the whole vehicle.

Re: 2007 Two-Mode Hybrid SUVs

This new 2-mode hybrid system in the Hummer H3 & H2 should be excellent! Imagine the fuel consumption of a Magnum RT AWD or the Nitro AWD with the system, there's no reason not to like medium/large cars & small/medium/large trucks anymore. I hope this system succeeds.

In the meantime, I hope Toyota & Honda continues to further develop their perspective hybrid systems to squeeze even more power and performance out of the current hybrid systems.
