Re: 2007 GMT-900 Information

I just skimmed through that, but one thing I noticed is that they're sticking with solid-rear-axels for the big SUVs. I wonder how the ride will compare to the now IRS Ford SUVs...

Perhaps at least the Escalade will get IRS?

The only thing that stood out to me is the transmissions again. I am beginning to think GM is just committed to putting all their development dollars into making the engines more efficient and not bothering to upgrade all their tramsissions to 5 or 6 speeds.

Like it or not, there are people out there that won't look so much at the mileage figures on the sticker (even if they are higher than the competitors), but instead may view it only having a 4 speed automatic as being way behind the competition.
I've found that most people I know who own SUV's don't have a clue as to how many speeds they have - only the 'car' people. Since the SUV market is bigger than just the 'car' people, I wouldn't worry about it too much - the 4 speeds are still great transmissions.

Anyhew, before GM can put them in the vehicles, they need to have them. GM currently has the capacity to build some 4 or 5 times as many 4 speeds as 6 speeds... the 6 speeds are still ramping up production. And sadly, it's not just a matter of upgrading parts of a transmission plant to make it work - it takes a whole new plant, ground up.

So they'll get here... we just need to be patient. They'll start out in the higher priced vehicles, and trickle down in time.

The 5.3 is more than capable of making those horsepower numbers. They probably decided to give up some horsepower for fuel economy because of gas prices. This is the type of thing that can be changed last minute because it is all in the computer tune.

Re: 2007 GMT-900 Information

i'm curious as the the specs on the 6.2L.

i know the 6L has a bore and stroke of 4"x3.625". it has 2" intake and 1.55" exhaust valves.

the LS7 has a bore and stroke of 4.125"x4", and has 56mm x 41mm (2.2" x 1.61") valves.

The article says the 6.2L has 55mm x 40.4mm valves (2.165" x 1.59"). This tells me that it has the LS7s bore (4.125") but a shorter stroke - about 3.54", and longer rods. exact displacement is ~ 6202cc.

a supercharged version will be in the corvette within a couple of years, and i imagine the escalade as well. it's not really a truck engine. it's only available in aluminum, and not with dod.

does anyone have any other details yet?

A long time back I saw some pictures of preproduction blocks that someone had some how obtained. They were stamped "6.0/6.2", which leads me to believe that the 6.2 has a 4" bore and a little more stroke than 3.62", but less than 4". There was also an LS7 based V10 head in those pictures. I don't know what that means now almost a year later, but they obviously have had one in development fairly recently.

About the valve sizes, the 2.16"/1.60" combination ought to fit a 4" motor. Remember that the 2"/1.55" combo was used on the 3.9" bore ls1, and it is physically possible to use them on a 5.3/4.8 block. Maybe not the best idea from a valve shrouding perspective, but I've done it before.

I just wonder if the LS7 intake will fit these new truck heads, if so it won't be too long before there are 'vettes and GTOs running around with these heads.

I noticed on the Tahoe interior that there are no more inboard armrests in the seats. Will the pickup have them?

Re: 2007 GMT-900 Information

That new Escalade description sounds like it is fully tricked out! I bet it does get the 6.2 w/ 6spd.

Too bad the 6spd isn't across the whole engine line-up, hopefully that changes as production ramps up!

I also really like the back-up rear camera option! You know that is coming on some imports, so GM is right with the competition on that offering! Way to go GM!

That is from the GM specification sheet for the 2007 Tahoe. I do not know what torque for the others are, but i'll keep looking.

The 4.8 needs some help now. You get 30 more horsepower and 50 ft-lb more torque.
