Re: 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali Size Matters

I saw the exact same truck on my way into work this morning. I was in a slow, trafficy merge and a black Yukon Denali XL was in the left lane next to me. And it was clean and looked fantastic with the 20s. But that is a LOT of money - almost $20k more than my Nissan Pathfinder, not to mention higher operating costs. Still out of reach for me.

The mileage they observed (16.55 mpg) and cruising range (436.8 miles on a tank) were both impressive. I get around that mileage in my Nissan, which this truck probably outweighs by more than a ton, and outpowers by more than 100 horsepower (and 127 lb-ft of torque). I can get around 18.5 mpg on a pure highway trip, though.

Re: 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali Size Matters

You can't beat the versatility of a Suburban/Yukon XL. Obviously many other Americans agree, because they sell very well. This write-up is good, but it doesn't really have alot of info to share with the readers. I think he could've gone a little more in-depth or something...

I would personally much rather have this than the Escalade. I like the Escalade and all, but there is something about the understated elegane of the Yukon that I like a lot.

I understand what you mean, I to personally like the Denali more than the Escalade. In a way the Denali could replace the Escalade and leave caddy with mainly cars and crossover utilities. But those numbers are good either way you look at them from this report.

Now if only GM can get rid of the Escalade and make the EXT version into a GMC with a Denali package and that would be one sweet deal.

I see more and more Denali's every day. They are mostly short wheelbase in black, though I've seen others. These are really some great looking (and performing) trucks.

Re: 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali Size Matters

I have pulled 19 in my 99 suburban on a trip to Texas beat that. Take that times 44 gallon tank that got me from MN to OK on one tank, just have to now how to tune it. My parents got 21 on the same trip in their 92 suburban, and neither me or my father drive slow. Was atleast at 65mph the whole trip. The factory could do this as well but may sacrifice on the HP/TQ. But for a family trip that isnt to important. If I only could afford an 07 and the 09 Camaro.

Everytime I see one, I love the looks, and the owners I speak to just love them. Looks like a big seller.

What a great vehicle. I,too, prefer it over the Escalade, however,I prefer the Chev LTZ over both. The Chev has an understated elegance that the Denali and Escalade are missing. IMO.

Re: 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali Size Matters

I just picked up a 2007 Z71 Suburban in Black, I looked at the GMC's but after owning 5 prior Chevy Suburbans I couldn't switch. I wanted the 6 speed and that was the main reason I considered the Yukon, but the looks of the Z71 won me over. I can't begin to tell you how much I love the truck, it is light years ahead of any Suburban I've ever owned and so far the best milage I've gotten was 19 on a 450 mile round trip upstate NY, and about half of those miles were on State roads, not the Thruway.

Congrats on the new purchase. I'd love either a Z71 Suburban or a Yukon XL Denali but I'm going to have to wait several years to get a used one to replace my 2000 Suburban. 19 mpg sounds great. I've gotten over 18 with mine on trips driving at least 75 mph, but it's generally in the 16.5 - 17 range. The new aerodynamics and cylinder deactivation must be working.

Re: 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali Size Matters

After two weeks with my new Denali XL, i'm averaging around 11mpg. But I haven't taken it out on the highway yet, so hopefully things will improve. I test drove a Suburban LTZ before getting swayed by the 6spd and 380hp of the Denali. One thing I pointed out to my GMC salesman that he didn't think was very funny: in the Suburban you can display your instant fuel economy (also where the V4/V8 shows) but in the Denali? No instant fuel economy read out. Ignorance is bliss until I pull up to the fuel pump.
