v8 standard, so much for the Former astro van buyers, guess they'll have to get a sprinter.

Nooooooooo! The end of the 4.3L V6! I have one in my Blazer and S10 pickup and can attest to their durability. Minor mods would have made these V6's more powerful and viable today.

Re: 2007 Express Passenger Changes

I'm not sad to see the 4.3 liter V6 disappear. I had them in my two 1998 Bravadas and I thought they were loud and sort of "unsmooth." Weren't those just small-block V8s with two cylinders hacked off?

I think it's a little shady to charge more for any color other than black, white, and red. I could see charging extra for something fancy like a pearl white or a color that has some other special features (like the cool tinted Millennium Yellow they used to have in C5 Corvettes...THAT was a sweet color), but I don't like that you have to pay more for any colors besides those three.

Re: 2007 Express Passenger Changes

The 4.3 is/was an awesome little engine. I'd take it over the 3.5/3.7 anyday. Even with the power boost for '07 the 4.3 still has more torque. Though horsepower is definately more in the I-5's. I wish it was still offered as a limited option in the Colorado/Canyon. Though it seems GM is determined to kill it so oh well.

Re: 2007 Express Passenger Changes

Why would I have to get rear air conditioning to have a friggen sliding door? That's one thing I hate about car companies. To get option A I have to get option B, which also includes Options C D E F and H. This will all, of course, add another $1500 to the price of the car.

Same thing with the Aveo, have to go up an trim level to get an automatic.

I will also miss the 4.3

Doesn't seem smart killing off the 4.3 in light of the impossible gas prices

Not a big difference economy wise between the two; the 5.3 gets 14 city/18 highway according to the EPA while the 4.3 gets 15 city/19 highway. If they switched to the "new" 5.3 liter from the Tahoe (which I could see them doing) and added AFM/DOD, that might eliminate any economy advantage the 4.3 had.

My parents had a 1993 Safari with the 4.3 V6 and later a 1999 Econoline with the Triton V8 (I don't remember if it's 4.6 or 5.4 liters). Both were good vehicles, but the Econoline is much larger. The Ford got better fuel economy, averaging about 17 mpg in mixed driving and a pretty consistent 19 on long trips.

Re: 2007 Express Passenger Changes

Yay!

Maybe this means the new Silverado won't be saddled with the crappy 4.3 Vortech in '07. It was a great idea...in 1985 when it debuted. It has long outlived its usefulness. Now even the ohv 3.5 60 degree is upgraded to 224hp in some models. The 4.3 might have been very reliable, but that motor was thirsty as the devil.

I'm a bit of a leadfoot, but in a 3600lb 2 door Blazer it managed something like 14mpg. Typical "mods" like a catback, K&N intake and computer reprogram made it at least somewhat responsive, and mileage went up too (partly because I lowered the auto shift points) - then again, if you have to spend $700 just to get the motor up to liveable standards, that doesn't say much for the Vortech.
