Re: 2007 Chevy Silverado Hardcore Hotrod

The truck in the OP is totally overdone. I am so tired of nasty grills. Hoey said it right.

As far as the second group of trucks, I am not at all of fan of air bags, and tucking this and that, looks stupid to me. As well as caddy converisons. The truck on the far right is the only one that looks good IMO. (NOT the orange one, another thing that ticks me off is old trucks with wheels that dont match the look, tacky)

Re: 2007 Chevy Silverado Hardcore Hotrod

Wow, it's got a LS7, yet it's mounted to a 4-speed auto! Very hot-roddish. I don't care much for the truck at all. More money should have been spend on the performance of the truck than the over-the-top grill and steering wheel.

I never would've gathered that from your Sonoma.

I don't care for the look of some body-dropped trucks, but I love the Escalade conversions and laid-out trucks on bags, as long as they aren't overdone. The Escalade-clipped truck will look nice and clean when it's done, no tacky crap done for the sake of being different. In fact, he's shaving the fender vents while most people are tacking them on.

The white truck was stock-floor body-dropped and has a fabricated frame. You have to respect the work Chris did on it, but I don't think the narrowed front-end looks good, although he did it so he could drive it just a few inches off the ground.

As for old trucks, I like them to look stock or mildly updated, lowered or laid-out with wheels up to 20"/22" in a style that fits the truck, unlike the orange truck you see in that picture.

They should do a Tahoe front end conversion on the Silverado. I want to see how it looks on the body of the Silverado.

Trendsetting and custom cues can be found interspersed between different breeds of vehicles. Hot styles know no boundaries and, therefore, can jump to a car or a truck, street rod or a motorcycle. To reflect such popularized components of design, the GM design team spent some time with the Teutuls at Orange County Choppers to garner ideas in turning an '07 Silverado into the ultimate shop hauler.

To say this truck was new when it started is a gross understatement. This hapless victim was plucked right off of the assembly line and sent straight to the shop where GM's Design, Engineering, and Powertrain divisions melded minds with Roush Engineering. The truck was torn down to a bare cab on a naked frame and placed in the middle of a stark work chamber. Air Ride Technologies' StongArms replaced the front stock components, and the suspension is now handled with ShockWaves set into modified strut towers. Out back, the factory 3.23-equipped rear axle was narrowed 7 inches, per side, for a total of 14 inches....

Long, Informative Article CONTINUED HERE

What the hell, someone stole the airbag and didn't cover up the frame of the wheel or anything?

Re: 2007 Chevy Silverado Hardcore Hotrod

What I always enjoy is other peoples reactions. Notice its always about what they like?? ("I don't like that"). Well guess what, its not about you, its about them. Having fun, doing something different, doing what they want, making something their own. Some guys like slammed trucks, some don't, some like old cars, some don't.

What I look at is the quality of the work. My friends and I have done many restos over the years on a variety of machines, its always entertaining, fun and not as easy as it looks. Most people have no idea of the work that goes into these vehicles, I say hats off to doing mods like that on something brand new (hows that warranty holding out??LOL). Neat looking trucks in the second batch.

Personally, my preference is stock looking (more or less) but killer power. Still hoping GM puts the 6.2L/6 speed as an option on the RCSB Sierra so that I can trade up, otherwise I'll have to do it myself on my 07 (which then makes a nice jumping point for a supercharger or turbocharged setup). Be a bit complicated I think with all the databus communication going on between engine/tranny and chassis these days...(hopefully with GM having that setup in the denali already the swap should be doable with correct harnesses etc).

What really blows me away is the lack of enthusiasts on this site.

I'm also wondering what they are going to do for box panels so they match the caddy flares on the front fenders?? Those are the flares GM SHOULD have used on the new Silverado IMHO, even the Sierra is kinda overdone.

Re: 2007 Chevy Silverado Hardcore Hotrod

The reddish-pink tinted windows on the OCC truck remind me of Oakleys I used to wear in the 1990s.

Add me to the list of people who prefer the tasteful exterior enhancements of the blue Silverado SS truck.

Why do people mix rum with cola when they could just enjoy the perfectly good rum?

It's about being different, doing something that few others do (the white truck was the first 900 pickup to be body-dropped), personalizing it to your taste and enjoying the ride.

I haven't talked to him about it but I would buy Escalade ESV quarter panels, cut-out the big Silverado flares and weld the Escalade quarters into the bed-sides. This might be what he is doing, or he could be fabricating new bed-side panels, I'll try to find out.

That would be my best guess too but the flares are way different between the two and I wonder if there is enough metal over the caddy quarters to cover the whole chevy boxside flare as they are so huge and go right to the back of the box? Gonna need some good metalworking skills there.

Personally, I think Chevy should have done that style on the Silverado, if they had made the side panels the same as the new Avalanche that would have been a very attractive truck, clean, simple, taught lines yet not overdone...and this caddy conversion will be almost exactly that...send me a PM with the info once you find out, really looking forward to seeing that done.

For these guys it's not as hard as it seems. With a little sheet metal, a plasma cutter and a welder, much can be done.

No doubt it takes work, and they did it right for what its worth, just not my cup of tea. I wonder how those trucks drive with that kind of set up? Handling?

In my opinion, less is more, the OCC truck is over the top, too much going on. I will say the 900 caddy conversion will look good, but I hated with a passion the 800 Escalade and even more the 400, so when I see those I am automatically turned off. I want to see a Tahoe or Yukon front end grafted on as well like someone else mentioned.

Edit: I just re read your post and you said basically waht I just said, hehe.
