Re: WTCC targets round in the USA

LOL a sex ban from his wife if he didn't win.
Ohh man... Great stuff...

I'm half interested in the cruze now.
I want a 300WHP car, with a large laggy arse turbo with an obnoxious wastegate and blow off valve.

Re: WTCC targets round in the USA

I would love to see a V8 Supercars round held in the US at Watkins Glen in New York.

Re: WTCC targets round in the USA

We already have great touring car racing in the US through the Koni Challenge Series and Speed Touring Car Series. I'd rather see GM and Ford put money into them than a European Series that is going to show up once a year with many vehicles not even available in N.A.

+1 for the Glen!
I think I spend too much time there already though.

WTCC is a GM/Ford Europe operation. It doesn't effect what they do in Grand-Am/Koni or STC. What those series need is more coverage and a better TV package.

WTTC in America will dilute production car racing even more, resulting, IMO, in less print and TV coverage for the Koni and STC than we currently have.. Every production car road racing fan should be contacting Speed and ESPN and complain about the poor coverage. I, for one, am sick and tired of their relentless focus on NASCAR.

Re: WTCC targets round in the USA

Since the Cruze is going to be sold here in the States it only makes sense to get some exposure through auto racing. Hopefully a channel like speed HD Theater or verses can pick the series up.

At our NASA Mid-West/Great Lakes banquet last weekend I sat at the table with a guy who has set some track records while running in TT (Time Trails) in a VW Beetle. He says with a FWD car it more pulls you through a corner. That above incident in a RWD car more than likely would have resulted in an excursion through the grass.

Re: WTCC targets round in the USA

Enough of Watkins Glen what about Road America which is widely acknowledged as the finest road course in all of North America. I would welcome seeing this series in the US.

Speaking of road racing did anyone see the ALMS at Laguna Seca this weekend? The Porsche put the C6R GT2 in the wall on the last lap. Between the Opel Situation and that I am really starting to dislike Germans!

Sure. The accident between the Cruze safety car and the BMW race car is the reason why the Germans hate Chevys.

Grow up.

It would be a wonderful thing to have a V8 Supercars round ANYWHERE in the US...NASCAR does loom large, and much of the available advertising moneys that drive current motorsports coverage would probably not be a resource to get the funding for this to happen. NASCAR would be especially opposed to V8SC coming to the US, for many reasons--unless they thought they could buy the series and run it into the ground too!

Watkins Glen wouldn't work, since NASCAR owns that track...Road America would be my choice, but Laguna Seca or Sonoma would probably work best, since they are closest to Oz. Bruton Smith would make a deal with V8SC and host them at Sonoma, just to poke NASCAR in the eye.

V8SC has its problems, and is working on its own "Car of the Future", partly in hopes of attracting more manufacurers....just hoping they don't ruin a good thing.

V8SC is looking to expand its reach beyond Oz and the Middle East.
