Re: Holden Boss Wants More Brands In V8 Supercars
The way the car makes it's power should not matter. Just how it puts the power down (i.e. RWD only, etc). Homologationa nd price max limit also good ideas.

Re: Holden Boss Wants More Brands In V8 Supercars
Holden and Ford burnt their bridges years ago when Mitsubishi was looking to enter the sport with the Magna and they shot it down in flames. That was when there was money to invest in motorsport locally. There is no chance now.
The sport needs to go backwards about 15 years. I've lost all interest as even the skins of the cars aren't stock. Shorter Commodores and Falcons with flared guards. It's almost 2 steps from being Nascar. Same car. Different stickers.

Re: Holden Boss Wants More Brands In V8 Supercars
I think they should get rid of V8 Supercars altogether and go back to a formula that has cars you can actually buy (or be very close to the ones you buy). They have no problem with handicapping as has been shown in the last couple of years. We need some new vehicles racing.

Re: V8 Supercars News & Results 2009
Townsville Ready For V8 Action
Briar Gunther 26 May 2009 The Reid Park street circuit in far north Queensland is in its last stages of completion in anticipation for the inaugural Dunlop Townsville 400, which runs from July 10 to 12. The 2.86 kilometre-long racing surface was finished six weeks ago and is in the process of curing while the multi-purpose pit lane facility is nearing completion. Townsville’s circuit is shaping up to become one of the best V8 Supercar spectator facilities, with the grandstands under construction while viewing mounds for general admission spectators are in place and being grassed. Following monsoonal rains, Leightons Contractors, which is in charge of building the circuit, put extra resources into the project to ensure it was completed on time. V8 Supercars Australia Chairman, Tony Cochrane, said the end result was “far, far better than we had ever imagined”. “The look and feel of the circuit is totally unique to any other,” he said. “And having the ability to build it from a blank piece of paper has given us unique opportunities in the track design and spectator facilities. ”At the same time it will provide year round facilities for Townsville and North Queensland.” Although more than 80,000 tickets have been sold for the Dunlop Townsville 400, including 27,000 the day they went on sale, there are still plenty available. “Contrary to what some people might think we are not yet sold out,” Cochrane said. “There are plenty of options for fans still available.” While hotel bookings are almost at capacity there are a number of other options available including the Homestay Program, which has around 20 houses still available for rent, tent city where people simply walk in to a pre-built camping facility and in the nearby towns within easy driving distance. For accommodation options visit http://www.v8supercarevents.com.au/T...ommodation.htm or telephone 1800 801 902. Tickets to the Townsville 400 are available via Ticketek at www.ticketek.com.au or by calling 132 849. Visit www.v8supercarevents.com.au for more details about the Dunlop Townsville 400. Meanwhile, a lack of commitment from the Western Australian government in its 2009-2010 budget for redeveloping Barbagallo Raceway does not mean the issue is done and dusted. A review on the track is in its third phase, and the government is expected to announce whether it will fund an upgrade to Barbagallo before the end of the year. V8 Supercars Australia has indicated that it will not return to the circuit once its contract runs out this year, unless a commitment to upgrade the facilities is made. |

Re: V8 Supercars News & Results 2009
V8 Supercars Round 4 Results,
Qualifying & Race 7 Symmons Plains Raceway, Tasmania V8 Supercars Australia 30 May 2009 Toll Holden Racing Team (HRT) driver Garth Tander scored the first Holden win for 2009 at Symmons Plains Raceway today (Saturday), breaking TeamVodafone’s domination of the Championship. Supercheap Auto Racing’s Russell Ingall finished only a tenth of a second behind Tander in second, while Jim Beam Racing’s Steve Johnson finished third. At 2.4 kilometres, Symmons Plains is the shortest circuit in the V8 Supercar Championship, and the short nature of the track meant lapped traffic towards the end of the race was constantly holding up the frontrunners. Tander, who started the 100-kilometre race from pole position, described it as busy. “At the end when we were lapping traffic it was on for young and old,” he said. “It was busy the whole race and obviously there was a bit of unknown about how the Sprint (soft compound) tyre would work here in these cold conditions on a very short lap. “Our car was very, very good all race;I just tried to manage the gap as much as I could all the way through the race so that it would look after the tyre at the end. “It went away a little bit right at the end there, but the speed is still very good so it’s time we got a result for Holden.” Ingall, who fared worse than Tander in the traffic stakes, described the situation as a pain in the backside. He was held up longer than Tander by Dale Wood in the Hi-Tec Commodore, Wilson Security Racing’s Michael Patrizi and Team BOC’s Jason Richards. “You can tell the attitude of some drivers, a couple of them just turned left, hard, and if I had have just stayed there I would have turned them ‘round and possibly taken the front end off my car, so I had to grab some kerb now and then and it was just a shame, because I wanted to get on Garth and give him a good race at the end,” The Enforcer said. “It was pretty average steering by a few drivers, but some you’d expect it, you know? I knew which ones they were. “You could pretty well see the number on the back and you’d say, ‘yep, turkey, turkey, not too bad, turkey, turkey (as you drove past them). “You’d see them coming a mile away so you know what’s coming at you, put it that way.” Ingall said his #39 Commodore had the best pace all year today. “We’d found something that had been hindering us all year in the new car,” he said. “It was just something in the build and the boys to their credit found it last night and instantly we got pace, so at least that’s fixed and out the way.” Ingall agreed it was good to see Holdens at the front, saying he was sick of the “one horse race”. Re: V8 Supercars News & Results 2009
V8 Supercars Round 4 Results,
Qualifying & Race 8 Plus Championship Points Symmons Plains Raceway, Tasmania V8 Supercars Australia 31 May 2009 Today’s 200-kay race held as part of the Falken Tasmania Challenge was a race that you needed to study hard to know what was going on. But at the end of the day it was TeamVodafone and Jamie Whincup who resumed their position at the front of the field. Apart from a small blip in yesterday’s sprint race when Toll Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander won The General’s first race of the season, it has been the TeamVodafone pair of Whincup and Craig Lowndes taking the chequered flag first at every race this season. Whincup said it was great to be back on the winner’s rostrum – his first visit to the top step of the podium since event two of the 2009 V8 Supercars Championship in Hamilton, New Zealand. “It was a much better day (than yesterday),” said Whincup, who finished Saturday’s sprint race in an uncustomary eighth. “Yesterday was tough. We came down here and we knew we had good speed, but we just couldn’t get things together. “We regrouped overnight. It was great this morning in qualifying (where Whincup grabbed pole); that was good fun and then the race was a massive battle. Our engineers kept us up to date with what was going on but it must be hard for the fans; they must just see 30 cars going around.” Whincup said the ‘Sprint’ tyre made today’s 84-lap race interesting as he battled for the lead with Toll Holden Racing Team’s Will Davision and Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom, before both drivers had late-race incidents in the action-packed thriller. “The soft tyre has really smartened things up; traditionally we have had some pretty boring races down here where we are all just circulating,” he said. “Then it was all pretty crazy. Mark (Winterbottom) was leading for a while and then he had an incident and Will (Davison) was leading and then he had an incident. I had a massive scare down at turn two when I locked a front wheel… (but) every race win has its own incident like that.” He said today’s win was certainly no picnic. “We were pushing hard, there was nothing left to give; I was on the limit for 84 laps,” he admitted. Whincup said he was already thinking about a good result in the main race today once it became obvious that he was struggling in yesterday’s 42-lap sprint race. “I conserved a lot more than most… everyone pretty much ran their Sprint tyre all of yesterday’s race; I only used mine for half of yesterday’s race; that gave me a little bit of a tyre advantage (today).” Davison finished second and said he was happy just to get some good Championship points. “I don’t really want to play the (Championship) points game, but you have to be realistic as well. We haven’t really had the ideal qualifying in the last couple of rounds, but we have been able to fight back (in the races) with a great car,” he said. “We have really kept the points tally ticking over.” The Toll HRT driver, who sits second in the Championship, said he had a tough race and was disappointed to lose track position late in the race. “We had a great qualifying session this morning and then we had a strong race like I knew we would,” he said. “It was a very tough race there with Jamie (Whincup). It was hard to know what was going on. There was traffic everywhere and lapped cars everywhere… it was frustrating when I saw him come out (in front of me). It was a race to the flag. I had a car that was capable of challenging him, but in the end it just came down to track position.” Wilson Security Racing’s Fabian Coulthard made a hard charge at the end of the race on his ‘Sprint’ tyres to eventually finish third. He may have finished even higher had he not been blocked for a couple of laps by Autobarn Racing’s – Toll HRT’s Walkinshaw Performance sister team – Paul Dumbrell, who was a lap down and not battling for position. The race went under safety car on lap 59 for a few laps after Jim Beam Racing’s James Courtney had a big off entering the pit straight after a coming together with Hi-Tec Racing’s Dale Wood. Supercheap Auto Racing’s Tim Slade and Coulthard’s teammate Michael Patrizi both had their first ever V8 Supercar top 10 finishes with ninth and 10th respectively. GM's Bankruptcy Won't Affect V8 Supercars, For Now
V8's Braced For GM Bankruptcy
Auto Action 5 June 2009 www.wheelsmag.com.au Are Holden teams worried that General Motors' bankruptcy will hit their bottom line? V8 Supercars' powerbrokers have denied its red army of Holden teams will fall victim to the financial shockwaves of General Motors’ collapse into bankruptcy earlier this week. As Auto Action closed for press on Monday, the US Government announced that GM had officially slid into bankruptcy – making it the largest industrial bankruptcy in US history. Once the world’s largest corporation, GM joins Chrysler in Chapter XI bankruptcy – a condition allowing the organisation to continue trading while it undergoes restructuring and debt management in order to become profitable again. Despite the bad news, V8 chief Tony Cochrane and Holden Motorsport Manager Simon McNamara both insisted that V8 Supercars is safe and denied the news would seriously jeopardise Holden’s motorsport operations – at least for the short term. “The teams that rely on some of their funding from Holden in Australia are well and truly locked in for this year,” Cochrane admitted to AA. V8's Weather Economic Storm
Auto Action 11 June 2009 www.wheelsmag.com.au V8 Supercars will survive the Global Financial Crisis even if it means pegging the field back to 28 cars. That’s the view of V8 boss Tony Cochrane who has said the sport will thrive despite the parent company of one of its two manufacturers slipping into bankruptcy last week. Cochrane said the sport is well-positioned to weather the global financial storm, despite more and more businesses folding in an ongoing uncertain economic environment. “If you look at how V8s has shaped up during the course of this global financial crisis, I think we’ve held up very, very well,” said Cochrane. “I have to say that our revenue base is still very strong. A couple of our teams are doing it tough at the moment and we’re well aware of that. But V8 Supercars as the governing body and the major source of income for the sport is in very, very solid shape.” Cochrane has made no secret of the series’ aim to shrink the field by two cars to a grid of 28, and he says that remains a strategy to help keep the sport prospering. “We’ve still got 30 cars running despite the fact that as a board and certainly from myself as the chairman, we have a burning desire to get down to 28 professional cars in the championship,” he said. “Once again, that’s a well-known number we’ve been talking about now for two years.” Click here to continue article |

Re: V8 Supercars News & Results 2009 - V8's Weather Economic Storm
What is really achieved by going from 30 to 28 cars? C'mon, 36 to 28 I could see making a difference in quality but dropping two (i am assuming privateers) doesn't make much difference.

Shaking Up The V8 Supercars Australia
Peter McKay 16 June 2009 www.wheelsmag.com.au The appointment of Mark Skaife to the V8 Supercars Australia board was the only positive move in a rough week for the battling two-make series. Typically, the hype merchants at V8 Supercars Australia were playing up the announcement that Australia's most decorated racing car driver Mark Skaife has been appointed as the second independent director on the board. The press announcement late last week declared that “Skaife fills the vacant position to join fellow independent, South Australia’s Roger Cook, on the eight-man Board having been unanimously voted into the position at this week’s June board meeting”. It’s not Skaife’s first appearance on the board of the V8 Supercars group. He was there when he previously held a position when he was with Gibson Motorsport in the 1990s and then the Holden Racing Team in the 2000s. Skaife does bring to the board a wealth of knowledge across many facets of the sport – distinguished racing driver, team owner, Holden pitch man, corporate shaker and media mover. He joins on the board Cook, Tony Cochrane (executive chairman), team representatives Tim Edwards (the FPR team boss), Paul Morris (Holden team owner), Larry Perkins (Holden team owner), Jason Bright (Ford racer), and James Erskine of Sports and Entertainment Ltd, the 25 per cent shareholder in V8SA. Skaife retired from full-time professional racing late last year and despite constant rumours has not made an announcement that he will return for the Phillip Island and Bathurst enduros. The five-times champion is already involved with V8SA as the head of a committee to settle on the Car of the Future, a more generic standardised race vehicle for the era beyond the traditional Ford-Holden contest which the category is attempting to change, against the wishes of the majority of its supporters. Skaife has also been involved in the design input into the streets circuits in Canberra, Townsville, and Homebush. Skaife joins the board as a so-called independent director. This seems an odd description given his lengthy involvement with Holden and only Holden since the early 1990s. Click here to continue article |

Big Fans: Pink & Carey Hart's Wild Holden V8 Supercar Adventure!
Pink & Carey Experience V8 Supercars
V8 Supercars Australia 12 June 2009 No strangers to life in the fast lane, superstar entertainer Pink and her high-flying husband, freestyle motocross hero Carey Hart swapped the stage for the seat of a 600hp Holden V8 Supercar today on the Gold Coast. Touring together in separate nationwide shows, the duo spent a rare day off at the Holden Performance Driving Centre in Norwell, the home of Supercheap Auto Racing. Hart, who is headlining his own Hart and Huntington Freestyle Tour presented by Holden, was a guest of the leading team at the Symmons Plains event a fortnight ago, and admitted to being captivated by the muscle and raw power of the touring car category. V8 Supercar legend Russell Ingall and team owner Paul Morris took time out to give the couple a tour of the state-of-the-art workshop, before fitting them out in their own race suits. P!NK was first to climb aboard the ‘Enforcer’s’ #39 Holden Commodore racecar, enjoying every moment of a white-knuckled series of hot laps at speeds of over 200km/h. Then it was Hart’s turn, though his ride was more like a private tuition session with Paul Morris preparing him for the upcoming challenge. An accomplished racer in his own right, Hart swapped seats with Morris, and set off on his first ever laps as a V8 Supercar pilot. He took little time to find his feet, quickly coming to grips with the braking and cornering characteristics of the car and making steady improvement with every lap. Hart said the opportunity had been incredibly rewarding, and said he held Morris, Ingall and his counterparts in high regard in terms of the physical strength and focus required to produce consistent, mistake-free laps. “I had followed V8 Supercars with interest in the US, and was stoked to join the team at Super Cheap Auto Racing in Tasmania where I was able to experience the atmosphere of a race meeting up close,” said Hart. “Today’s drive was amazing, its always been an ambition of mine to get behind the wheel of a fully-fledged Aussie touring car, and the experience was as good as I’d imagined it would be. Good old Pink...
One minute, she's basing her career personna on her being the committed Eco Warrior (albeit living that indispensible jet-setting high consumption, high pollution lifestyle) Next moment, its lending her name towards a high-octane motor racing promo Self-proclaimed 'friend of Australia' when it suits her agenda (and income stream) Yet more than eager to slag off against this country internationally by campaigning against our major agricultural exports Two shades of Pink, methinks: One hue being clinical opportunism, the other is blatant hypocracy |
