V8 Supercars To Reward More Teams In 2008 Points Score

V8 Supercars Australia
15 January 2008
www.v8supercars.com.au

V8 Supercars Australia will reward more teams and drivers in the 2008 Championship Series with a point-score that extends to 30th position yet retain the important emphasis on passing.

The V8 Supercar Championship Series begins in Adelaide next month with the Series being officially launched in Melbourne on February 6. Two compulsory team test days will be held in Victoria and Queensland on the 12th and 14th of February followed by the Clipsal 500 from February 21-24.

The board of V8 Supercars Australia agreed to return to the extended allocation after 2007 where teams that finished lower than 15th did not receive points for their effort.

“The board felt it was important that teams who made the effort in the lower half of the field should still be rewarded with points that reflect their finishing position,” V8 Supercars Australia Chief Executive Wayne Cattach said.

Skaife Not Ready For V8 Retirement

AAP
30 January 2008
www.smh.com.au

Mark Skaife has shelved any talk of retirement, fired up by the challenge of V8 Supercars champion Garth Tander joining him at the Holden Racing Team for 2008.

Five-time V8 champion Skaife, who turns 41 in April, says quitting driving is not on his agenda at the end of this season, nor in the foreseeable future.

Skaife said he believed he could keep driving at the top level for another three or four more years, and admitted the arrival of Tander at HRT had stoked his competitive fires again.

"As long as I'm enjoying it, I'm fit, and I want to continue to compete, I don't see any reason why I couldn't do three or four more years," Skaife said.

Good to see Brad Jones Racing coming over to the good guys.
Anyone know if there is a resource that shows all the 2008 liveries?

I'm stoked for Van Gisbergen, so young but already in a top seat. Has a pretty damn bright future.

Re: V8 Supercars News & Results 2008 - Holden vs Ford: A New Battle Is About To Begin

What a fantastic racing series using vehicles that are production based. I'm sure they are every bit as safe as the COT in NASCAR and certainly more relevant. I 'm a big Chevy fan in NASCAR,however,I am embarrassed that they race an Impala SS which is FWD in production form. The only vehicle with any relevance is the Dodge Charger.Anyhow, thanks for keeping us informed and best of luck to all the teams in the V-8 Supercar Series. My favourite team,by the way is the Supercheap Racing Team and that's because of its out of this world title.

Do they still race the Utes? I always liked those races. At least the NASCAR Truck Series is closer to reality than the Nextel Cup is. That's as close as we can get in the US.

Thanks mate. No special graphics training for me other than the MonaroSS School of Microsoft Paint.

As usual, I'll be following Skaife and HRT. I think the main Holden teams (HRT, Toll HSVDT and Perkins JDR) will all have a very successful season.

It will be interesting to watch Ingall back in a Holden at the all-new Supercheap Auto Racing. I hope Tasman have a better year after a lackluster 2007.

And let's not forget good 'ol Brad Jones. He's seen the light and jumped ship. Now all we need to do is get Lowndes back on side.....

Thanks.
Just saw the HRT cars. The red seems to have gone orangey since Toll came aboard.
Prefer the last few years.

There is no relevance between any COT and any production car.
  • Chrysler teams race a car with Dodge decals called the Dodge Charger. Last year, the car with the Dodge decals was called Dodge Avenger, but it is the same car.
  • Ford teams race a car with Ford decals called the Ford Fusion.
  • GM teams race a car with Chevy decals called the Chevy Impala.
  • Toyota teams race a car with Toyota decals called the Camry.
Except for decals, rear door window treatment, and the engines, they are identical.

You completely missed my point. The relevence comes from the Charger being RWD. That's all. I know the COTs are indentical except for engines, side glass, decals and C-pillar. And I also know that NASCAR is boring as hell except for the two road courses, Daytona, Talledega, and Bristol.
