Award Winning VE Commodore Ready For The 2007 V8 Supercars Championship Series

V8 Supercars Australia
24 January 2007
www.v8supercars.com.au

The newest arrival into the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the Holden VE Commodore, will be even more eagerly anticipated following its winning of the prestigious Wheels Car of the Year.

The VE and the new Ford BF Falcon will debut on the grid in front of more than 250,000 fans at round one of the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship Series, the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, in just over a month’s time.

V8 Supercars Australia Chairman Tony Cochrane said the fact that the VE had won the Wheels award for the best car in the country would only add to a highly anticipated Championship in 2007.

“What an outstanding achievement this is for Holden Australia,” Mr Cochrane said.

“The VE Commodore is absolutely World class and shows that Australian manufacturing is best practice not just in Australia but internationally.

“Congratulations to Denny Mooney and all of the team at Holden on this wonderful award.”

Both models – the new look VE Commodore and the new look BF Falcon – were approved to contest the V8 Supercar Championship Series late last year after several months of evaluation and rigorous testing to ensure they comply with the technical regulations of the sport.

The V8 Supercar Championship Series teams have been feverishly building new cars in preparation for the Adelaide event that begins the 14-round 2007 season from March 1-4.

The VE Commodore is an all-new car while the BF Falcon has had a major facelift from the current model. The VZ Commodore remains eligible for competition in the Championship while the current BA model will only be permitted in the secondary Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.

HRT Unveils Brighter & More Aggressive Look With New VE Commodores

Holden Racing Team
www.hrt.com.au

The most successful team in Australian Touring Car history, the Holden Racing Team in Melbourne today unveiled the cars it hopes drivers Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly can claim back the V8 Supercar Championshipwith - the new generation Holden VE Commodore.

The official factory team’s racing version of the recently announced Wheels Car Of The Year is the result of an intensive 18-month design and development program and subsequent build phase undertaken by the team in conjunction with Holden and TEGA.

The road going Commodore's design winning Euro styling and wide stance is enhanced on the race version by a more aggressive look for HRT, with a greater presence of black on the vehicle complimented by the colourful, bright and energetic new HRT day-glo red base colour.

In addition to unveiling the design for the very first time, the team also announced that dual V8 Supercar Champion Glenn Seton will join the driver line-up for the season’s annual Sandown and Bathurst endurance races, the 41-year-old joining Holden’s factory team after a long association with rival manufacturer, Ford.

Five-time Series Champion Skaife said the introduction of the new car was the most significant change in HRT's program in almost a decade.

The VE is the biggest change we've had since the VT first hit the track back in 1998, so today is quite a momentous occasion for Holden’s factory team, Skaife said.

Toll HSV Fires First Shot In Title Defence

Toll HSV Dealer Team
www.hsvdt.com.au

V8 Supercar titleholder Toll HSV Dealer Team has lifted the wraps from the weapon designed to take it to back-to-back championships in 2007.

The all-new Toll HSV VE Holden Commodore race car was revealed by2006 Champion Rick Kelly and team-mate Garth Tander at the team launch at Holden Special Vehicles Clayton factory in Victoria.

Kelly was then joined by Paul Little, managing director of major sponsor Toll Holdings, to ceremoniously rip the 15 from the door of the car, leaving the champions #1 for the new season.

The team also announced that Kelly and Tander had signed new deals to drive with the Toll HSV team until at least the end of 2008.

Both drivers say they are itching to give their new babies their first serious hit-out at Winton in the next couple of weeks in the countdown to the first round of the season, the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, on the first weekend in March.

V8 Supercars Guaranteed Record Live Television In 2007 On Seven

V8 Supercars Australia
9 Febuary 2007
www.v8supercars.com.au

V8 Supercars Australia and Seven is soon to release the much anticipated broadcast times for the 2007 Championship Series, guaranteeing viewers the most live coverage of the sport in history.

With Seven finalising its arrangements with the Australian Football League (AFL), the green light signals the release of the V8 Supercar broadcast schedule that has been in the making for the last three months.

These broadcast times will be released within the next two weeks.

“The issue of the AFL television package was never a threat to our plans for 2007 which are exactly now as they were last week,” V8 Supercars Australia Chief Executive Wayne Cattach said.

“We will continue to work with Seven to ensure both V8 Supercars and AFL get the best coverage. For V8 Supercars this means around 50 per cent more guaranteed live coverage on Saturdays and Sundays.

“There will be live qualifying and racing on Saturdays and live racing coverage of two hours or more on Sundays.”

The partnership between Seven and V8 Supercars Australia secures broadcast television rights for 2007-2012 and will see a series of significant developments that will expand live television coverage of Australia’s fastest growing sport across Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Seven has unveiled plans for the most hours of coverage of V8s in their history – up by more than 60 per cent on 2006. Seven’s V8 Supercar coverage will be live and for the first time, V8 Supercars will have its own regular television programme.

Seven will also commit to coverage of a number of the major support categories in V8 Supercars.

Sydney Street Race Still A Chance

Geoffrey Harris
14 February 2007
www.carpoint.com.au

The door is still open for a street race in Sydney, it seems. Funny that. There must be an election in the air. Oh, yes, there is. NSW voters are going to the polls on March 24.

For most of last year the idea of a race on public roads at Homebush, venue of the Sydney Olympics in 2000, looked to be dead. Too costly, it was said.

Then in mid-December, with the sniff of the election in the air, the NSW Opposition pledged its support for a V8 Supercar event at Homebush.

Now NSW Premier Morris Iemma, having already rejected a proposal from V8 Supercars Australia, says a Homebush street race could still happen.

"If they have other propositions they want to put to us the door is always open," Iemma is quoted as saying in today's edition of Auto Action magazine. "The government's got an open mind when it comes to supporting these events."

Perhaps the government is hinting that it might approve the idea if there is a company prepared to bear most of the financial risk, rather than it having to pick up the whole tab.

NSW governments have already pumped a lot of money into the construction of Eastern Creek and more recently the upgrading of Bathurst's Mt Panorama circuit.

If a Sydney street race gets the green light it would mean all of Australia's most populous states would have events on temporary circuits.

Melbourne has the Formula One Grand Prix, the Gold Coast the Champ Car and V8 Supercar carnival, and Adelaide the Clipsal 500 event that is the start of this year's V8 Supercar Championship on the first weekend of March.

I wish we could trade Nascar for this series. You probably wouldn't go for it though.

I think he meant the other way around...

EDIT: The cars are only production skin deep, in reality most of the Holden's and Ford's parts are interchangable to keep the series competitive.

The body is the main thing. That's where the connection is between the race car and the simple road car. Something NASCAR will always lack.

Re: V8 Supercars News & Results 2007

That brilliant "project blueprint" thing started the nascarization of the v8ss.

I'd love to see Skaife come back to the top this year. Too bad it's so damn hard to see a race here in the us.

Hmmm... 5 litre cast iron pushrod V8, 6 speed Hollinger crash box, spool diff, double wishbone front suspension, Watts linkage... I think not.

I think they just gave the Falcon a better aero kit to make it even, but I'm not sure.
