Stockholders Reject Deal To Buy NHRA

Stockholders of HD Partners Acquisition Corp. on Thursday rejected the firm's $122 million plan to buy the National Hot Rod Association drag-racing series and four racetracks.

HD Partners announced last May that it wanted to buy the NHRA's professional racing assets: the Powerade Drag Racing series, the TV contract with ESPN, four NHRA racetracks and a long-term lease on the track in Pomona, California, and the NHRA headquarters building in Glendora, California. NHRA was to keep its amateur racing assets.

In a statement, the NHRA said it would continue its operations and was not looking for another potential buyer in the near future.

In case anyone cares, I'd vote to exclude any motorsports news on the news ticker unless it directly relates to GM.

Re: Stockholders Reject Deal To Buy NHRA

This really could have helped to grow the series. It's too bad it fell through.

It is quite relevant to GM due to factory backed involvement ($$$) in several tiers of the NHRA. The amazing new LSx engines didn't just go from the drawing board to production... Think about the ecotec, GMPP, etc.

I like the NHRA. Pro Stock is my favorite.

And by the same token I would like exclude all the dumba$$ photoshop images posted. If its not factual (even a rumor) then it doesnt belong on any headline.

Well I'll chime in and say that I'm glad you posted this in the ticker, I wouldn't have found out otherwise. I am a GM guy, but a huge hotrodder first... I'm not the only one like this.

Re: Stockholders Reject Deal To Buy NHRA

I think its better that the stockholder's didn't buy it. IMO, sometimes its better to stay small. Look at Nascar. They have grown so fast and have started to alienate some of its die-hard fans just to please corporate America.

I agree. Racing will continue this year as it has for the last 5 decades, and so far, so good. Don't mess with success and as long as the NHRA isn't on the brink, its good to leave it as is. (Except maybe get rid of that stupid Countdown points system.....but thats a different topic for a different forum )

Doh! Really? I was just making sure it wasn't GM wanting to buy them that's all. Sorry I didn't make myself clear.
