May they not curse themselves with excessive weight penalties!

Re: Pics of new GT2 C6R!

"a new 5.5-liter V8 based on the next-generation version of the GM small block"... So is this gonna be a production engine displacement? Really excited to see and hear more about these Gen V LS V8s, DI, VVT, and AFM. Hopefully we'll see one of these in whatever version of the Commodore NA gets next.

Re: Pics of new GT2 C6R!

The new Gen V's should really throw a big, nasty wrench into the mix of performance, and put the "pushrod" engine right back ahead of everyone.

Re: Pics of new GT2 C6R!

I don't even have any of my wedding photos hanging up in my house, but when you walk in my front door, hanging right there on the wall in front of you is a trio of autographed Corvette racing photographs. Hell, I have a picture of Ron Fellows on my fireplace mantle. NO. I'm not kidding. It is incredible racing. I was a NASCAR fan from the early 70s thru the late 90s. Now, it is just as lame as the IROC series. Identacle cars that have NOTHING to do with the cars on the street running in a circle, and whoever happens to have been at the front of the draft at the end of 500 miles wins. What the hell??? BORING.

Car companies participate in racing to improve their image. Its marketing. BMW does not race in NASCAR. Ferrari does not race in NASCAR. Porsche, Aston, etc. do not race in NASCAR. They participate in ROAD RACING. They race at LeMans, not Dover Deleware. You tell me which car companies have the better image... The other part of it is, the car companies get NOTHING out of NASCAR. But, there is a VERY real transfer of technology from Sports Car racing back to the car companies. Doug Fehan (head of Corvette Racing) has given examples over the years at the track of things his team was testing for GM. Seems like I remember him talking about some type of a wheel bearing they were running because GM wanted to see how it would stand up to the abuse of endurance racing before using it across the line in its production cars. I guess if GM needs to know how to set up a carburator, NASCAR is the way to go.....

Plus, as a fan, I love seeing cars that LOOK like the Corvette I can buy at my local Chevy dealer out there racing. Plus, in the ALMS, the CARS are the stars. Hey, who won LeMans in 2008? Audi did. Who won Daytona last year? Billy Bob did. Nascar is all about the personalities, like professional wrestling.

Sucks that they're going with smaller engines. It's going to make them slower.

I certainly hope the new C6R has some success in the balance of races in ALMS this year, however, there is no chance they are going to run Porsche or Ferrari out of the series. IMO it will take at least a year for the team to be competitive in GT2. Lou Gigliotti's effort last year was certainly very weak and to my knowledge he is now out of the series. Let's not forget that Viper,Panoz, and Aston Martin will also be competing in the future. I hope that C6R GT2 and GT3 customer cars will become available so that privateers can race them in ALMS,World Challenge, and/or Grand Am GT.

A shorter stroke will allow them to move the powerband high, without sacrificing much in the way of airflow. I just hope they can get around any possible restrictor issues. Likewise, they're going to have to be less powerful! the other GT2 cars make in and around 500, where the C6.R GT1 was above 600.

You're right, it'll probably take the balance of the racing year to get things sorted out. Even then, the competition is tough and they are not standing still. Here's to hoping they beat my expectations.

Re: Pics of new GT2 C6R!

Guys ............... Corvettes don't just race in ALMS !!!!!! You are talking as if you don't know they are beating, Saleen S7R, Aston DBR9, Maserati MC12, and hosts of others in Europe and all over the world nearly every week in the European LeMans Series, And FIA GT series. For example they won the LeMans race in Portugal last week against all these brands. The week before they won the 24 Hours of SPA [second most prestigious sports car race in Europe] against the "factory" 3 car team of Vitaphone Maserati MC12's {ie. Enzo's]. Corvettes are ruling world wide in GT1 and GT3. And likely soon in GT2. There are already customers for these cars in Europe for 2010. And this rarely happened in the the past. That is the beauty of this sponsorship program. World wide recognition, admiration, and respect for a GM product...sounds good to me. Checkout the worldwide schedules, results, and videos at www.corvettemotorsport.com.

Enjoy the race.

The Corvette guys are going to be so confused... last time out they were pretty much only looking for each other when trying to spot the competition... this week its going to be like a swarm of competition. Much more intense racing for them, not that they ever went easy.
