Anyone know when and where they start competing? I can't wait for them to start mixing it up with Porsche and Ferrari.

Re: Pics of new GT2 C6R!

If you read the article Autoblog has posted, it says:

"Propulsion for the remainder of the 2009 ALMS season comes from a downsized 6.0-liter version of the 7.0-liter V8 that has been running in the GT1 car. The bore size remains the same, with the primary change being a shorter stroke crankshaft. For 2010, some new engine rules in GT2 will mean an all-new engine for the Corvette. Come Sebring next March, the GT2 Vettes will be running a new 5.5-liter V8 based on the next-generation version of the GM small block. Unlike the GT1 engines, the engines for the new cars will be assembled on the line at the GM Performance Powertrain Center alongside the production LS9 and LSA used in the ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V."

Next gen small block! YES! At least we know its coming sooner rather than later.

Very nice! I was looking forward to seeing these photos. That's what the ZR1 should look like!

This thread should be front page news and the title should be changed for those that don't know what GT2 C6R means.

I hope they do great in GT2. It will actually be interesting to watch them now that they are in a competitive class.

They'll run everyone out of GT2 and have to switch classes again.

From: http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090804/ALMS/908049989

"Corvette Racing will make its long-anticipated move from the GT1 class to GT2 (“Sports-Car Lowdown,” AW, Jan. 26) on Aug. 8 at Mid-Ohio"

So this weekend apparently.

Thanks!

Sports car endurance racing is my favorite type of auto racing. I like the fact that it takes such a huge team effort to be competitive. Most of the drivers also seem to be great people.

Re: Pics of new GT2 C6R!

I loved watching the GT1 Corvettes eat competition for lunch. I'm looking forward to watching the same in GT2.

I like SCCA because they use real cars....unlike NASCAR's "Car of Toyotas-are-for-fanbois-so-lets-let-Toyota-in-and-force-everyone-to-run-the-same-car".

When the COT came to NASCAR I turned my TV off. Also, The Chase is stupid. What kind of socialist crap is that?

Man those cars are BADASS!

So why is GM building the race engine for the C6R? Does GT2 require production engines?

They are probably building it because they have a place to make hand built race engines now, in GT1 you have to use a production based engine so Im guessing that GT2 will be the same thing. You do not have to use a production sized engine so this could mean that Corvette is moving to the Gen V engines for 2011 model year.

Re: Pics of new GT2 C6R!

I will witness these monsters this weekend at Mid Ohio. I have been looking forward to this weekend for a while.

I was a great run in GT1. Wish some other automaker would have at least attempted to race against them. ( besides an occassional Aston ).

Well, this is a fresh start in a new class. I think the cars look great.

Looking forward to their debut on Saturday
