Making NASCAR look lame: Mercedes AMG C-Class DTM

Here's my issue with NASCAR (and I know I'm in the minority here, based on the sport's immense popularity): I can barely tell one car from another, and as a result, I get bored. Sure, I know who the big guys are and what cars they're supposedly driving, but the fact of the matter is this: the bodies are, to the naked eye, identical-looking. If the cars didn't have stickers to simulate the front fascia of an actual production car, I'd be lost. Monte Carlo SS? Charger? Fusion? Camry? Sure, if you (and the decals) say so. Thank goodness for the production-based classes in ALMS, SPEED World Challenge, Grand-Am and the like, where Vettes, Astons, Mustangs, etc. are completely identifiable.

I don't understand why NASCAR is still trying to fool people by using these sticker grilles.

Why aren't the Automakers using their own stock vehicles?

I am so tired of this argument. If you dont like NASCAR, don't watch it & quit complaning about it! Yes, the bodies are nearly identical, big deal. No "Stock Car" could do what the NASCARs do, and the NASCARs speed & all out power are what makes them cool.

I would love to see them put roll cages in new cars and race them. NASCAR has been going in the wrong direction for years. I will still be at Bristol to watch the COT race for the first time.

I guess if we had enough money we could start our own series and race what we want to.

As for the original poster, I do agree with you. Nascar isn't about Ford vs Chevrolet vs Dodge vs Toyota anymore. Sure, they do contribute dollars to the sport and have a hand in funding engine development and aero testing....but for all practical purposes that is is. Basically, I am pretty sure the only reasons the auto makers are 'still in it' and Nascar allows it is Money. Nascar gets money from the Automakers, and the Automakers get a huge ammount of advertisement.

then go to your local track on during a SCCA event. I dont know about anyone else, but I dont not want to see stock 300hp Impala SS's, racing a 350hp Charger R/T's around the track. It would be so increadably slow! Everyone just quit bitchin' about the name Stock Car, "Who gives a turkey" seriously?

Youre in luck, On the new nascars coming up at the Bristol speedway Race You will be able to tell them apart, without the stickers. Even though they are all more alike that what youre seeing now!

They are, just not in NASCAR. See the Grand Am Koni Challenge GS and ST class races.

Asking why NASCAR doesn't use production-based cars is like asking why WWE Professional Wrestlers don't use Olympic Wrestling rules. It's not gonna happen. And the fans don't care. So change the channel and/or complain to the Speed channel for not offering more production-based racing series live like this one: http://www.grand-am.com/Home.asp

Re: Making NASCAR look lame: Mercedes AMG C-Class DTM

Yes that car is pretty cool to look at. And NASCAR needs to do a little more to differentiate models. But just how safe do you guys think your Monte Carlo or Fusion is at 190 when people die everyday in 45 mph accidents??? Wanna race FWD cars huh? Yeah, those are going to handle really well. Can you say push like a ****** ******? Heck, by the end of a race most walls would be knocked down. Never mind the challenges your going to have getting 850 hp to hook up at a track like Martinsville. NASCAR is too big. The drivers are mainly spoiled rich kids. And their size is hurting other series with better racing. But it's not the cars fault.

Until the day Chevy builds something like this:http://www.legendsofnascar.com/chassis2.jpg
I really wouldn't rag on the cars.
