Kyle Busch to drive for Gibbs

NASCAR's most coveted free agent since Dale Earnhardt Jr. has apparently found a home. Kyle Busch will be bunking with Tony Stewart at Joe Gibbs Racing, creating a spectacular cast a characters.

Jeff Dickerson, agent for the outgoing Hendrick Motorsports driver, would not confirm Busch's selection; however, sources close to the negotiations say he will replace J.J.Yeley in the No. 18 car.

"All I can say is that Kyle has made his decision and is in the process of informing the teams of his preference," Dickerson said Monday from a track in Kaukauna, Wis., where his driver is running a Late Model race. "As there are many details that still need to be worked out, Kyle will not be making that decision public at this time"

Representatives for Yeley could not be reached for comment Monday.

Busch, who earlier this season begrudgingly agreed to part ways with the sport's premier team, made his decision to join JGR during the weekend.
After pouring over notes and talking with teams, Busch pared down the decision between two teams: JGR and Dale Earnhardt Inc.

Dickerson said an official announcement of Busch's contract with Gibbs is expected to come within the next two weeks at the JGR headquarters in Huntersville, N.C.

Rumor also says that Gibbs is switching to Toy ota for next year -

Tony Stewart merchandise was on sale (50% off) at his 'home' track (Indy)

well, that would be a good indication as to why dale jr. was not taken as a serious candidate for gibbs. They better not switch.

Re: Kyle Busch to drive for Gibbs

IMO Toy ota will get one of the Chase 'caliber' teams to switch next year. Building new teams did not get them to the level of success they wanted this year, so they will go another route next year to try to get into the Chase. I'm betting that either/both Gibbs & Penske will be in Toy otas next year.

Also hearing that Team RedBull may switch from Toy ota to Chevy - but that one just popped up today when they parted ways with a high level team exec.

Why would anyone want to switch to Toyota? Is it a question of cash? They have not placed well at all. It just seems Chevy owns Nascar right now. Of course a lot of that is due to Hendrick. I am kind of a Nascar newbie but I do love the sport.

Gibbs is definately moving to Toyota. They will be a formidable team with Srewart,Hamlin, and now Busch. Chevy is still well represented with Hendrick,Childress, and DEI.

Re: Kyle Busch to drive for Gibbs

With the introduction of the COT, a switch to Toyota really doesn't mean that much. The frames and bodies are identical regardless of manufacturer. The only thing that is truly different is the engine. If Gibbs can get some more power out of the Toyota motors, they should be a strong competitor.

Makes it that much easier to go to Lowe's besides the Lowe's is cleaner, friendlier, better selection and best of all doesn't have a Satan's store (Walmart) sharing the parking lot.

btw, didn't Tony sign a contract that says he will be exclusively run Chevies? At least in his real race cars, the outlaws and dirt track stuff.

Re: Kyle Busch to drive for Gibbs

Toyota was just using these smaller teams to get into NASCAR and get their stuff up to snuff and then they will move to bigger teams.

It wouldn't surprise me if Gibbs goes to Toyota. HOF Racing was told supposedly to look for a new source for engines since Gibbs supplies engines.

Sounds like Yeley will go to the Wood Bros in '08.

Funniest NASCAR story of the week is Robby Gordon is giving Marcos Ambros a Cup ride for this weekend at Watkins Glen.

yeah, yeah, we know all that. its the principal of it. they leave for the money. thats the only reason (that i can see) why waltrip left (that and his daddy is a toyota spokesperson- but thats also about money). i like tony stewart, the old one better than the new, but i still like him. if he switches that just aint right.

Re: Kyle Busch to drive for Gibbs

I think Gibbs is gunna stay Chevy. Kyle wanted to race Chevy's next year and I think he would have wne t with DEI if Gibbs told him what they were gunna do. Its not like they made him think they would be Chevy for a while, only to change next year. I have faith in the Gibbs boys! Y would u throw away a good thing? 2 Titles, a Rookie of the year in the chase last year? Why risk that by going to Toyota. Look at Dodge since they come in. They have NAda, Just a few wins and not even many at that.

Chevy>Ford>Dodge=Toyota

Chevy Has 8 or 9 driverin the in CHase right now. Who the hell would be stupid enough to say say hey, LEts switch to these brand new Motors and Toyota cuz I wanna run the risk of possibly not making the chase like the rest of the Big name Chevys.

I didn't hear anything about RedBull going Chevy tho, thats new?
