Greg Bifle fined for not meeting obligations

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Tuesday that Greg Biffle has been fined $5,000 and placed on probation until Dec. 31 for failing to fulfill his post-race media obligations this past Saturday night, following the Busch Series race at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis.

Biffle was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4-H (violation of sub-section 7-2B: Failure to meet obligation of an accepted entry).

Biffle, driver of the No. 16 Ford, finished second in the event. In addition to the winning driver, second- and third-place finishers, plus the highest-finishing rookie of the year candidate must report for post-race interviews.

Also, two Busch Series crew chiefs have been fined $5,000 and placed on probation until Dec. 31 due to violations at Indianapolis:
• Chris Rice, crew chief on the No. 01 Chevrolet driven by Shelby Howard.
• Chuck Meyers, crew chief on the No. 1 Chevrolet driven by J.J. Yeley.
During opening inspection, both crew chiefs were found in violation of Section 12-4-A, 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment not conforming to NASCAR rules) and Section 20A-5.9D(4) (unapproved intake manifold modifications to the plenum area).

What does all that mean? Seriously...explain it to a non-NASCAR fan please. Is this set up with NASCAR or is this set up with the people that own the cars & teams? Why are they fined for this? Is this part of the driver's individual contracts?

Me not understand...

Re: Greg Bifle fined for not meeting obligations

They left the "racetrack" before the obligatory cage match.

NASCAR was ready to be flushed before they got bought by Toyota.

Now it's just such a huge load that even a plunger won't get it all down.

What has been suggested by Auto Extremist makes way too much sense so that will never happen. BTW, paraphrasing AE's suggestion, require cars that look like the cars people buy, even as far as requiring using a body in white to build from. Would leave the series to Mustangs, Challengers and Camaros.

Didn't Tony Stewart do the same thing a few weeks back. I don't remember him getting fined or suspended. I believe it was the race where he and his teammate (Busch, I think) wrecked eachother.

Tony should get a sponsor in regards to paying fines, he seems to collect them. Tony got $25k for a swear word after winning at Indy, I thought he got fined for missing the interview you mentioned.

I think ESPN should pay the $25k for doing a truely live broadcast of the post race interviews. My opinion of the fine is exactly what Tony said.

Also of interest, apparently the ESPN coverage was delayed for the race itself, on another board one member reported the nascar.com broadcast had the finish about a minute before espn? but the post race was live and didnt have the 7 second delay so they couldn't beep it.

Though espn doesn't seem to like Tony so they may have been delayed and just accidentally missed a word. Anyway, it was no worse than TNT replaying Petty's crash at Sonoma when the f bomb was dropped.

You don't know much about NASCAR, do you?

Yes, all drivers that finish 1-5 are obligated to have a post race interview. If they fail to talk with the reporters, they get the above penalty.

They are paid to race and talk to the media while wearing their sponsorships. He didn't do his job.

I heard the story of Kyle's swear. I would have fallen off my chair if I had heard that when it was played.

Had to giggle at your response ... because that was my reaction, too.

Who the heck is Greg Biffle?
Does he owe some debt to society?
Isn't he some pro golfer?

It wasn't what he said about ESPN. It was the use of a swear word, although a minor one, that got him the fine.

Re: Greg Bifle fined for not meeting obligations

Who is Greg BIFLE (sorry, I couldn't help myself after what you said to the other guy who was more right than wrong ) and isn't there any real news to report? No offence, but it really doesn't seem front page worthy. Not trying to complain, but lately it seems like the site isn't updated (especially on the weekends) and some of the best news doen't make the front page--but some dumb stuff does.
