Daytona 500 Results

Last Lap Drama
By Sue Kellogg

Yesterday's race at Daytona had the same dramatics with Kevin Harvick and Mark Martin crossing the finish line as the rest of speed weeks for the start of this season.

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with the teams that seemed to push the envelope with their cars and pleasantly surprised that NASCAR handed down suspensions, fines and docking of points. I would think that the teams would have learned the hard lessons from last season with Chad Knaus and the #48 Lowes team.

While these teams have all the labels as cheaters, that will just a distant memory as weeks go on this season. Today’s focus was on racing in the Daytona 500 and how will with the Toyota’s in Nextel Cup do in their first cup race. The highest Toyota was Dale Jarrett in twenty third place.

The 49th running of the Daytona 500 has just finished and the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup season is underway.

This year's Daytona 500 proved my theory that the last ten minutes of a NASCAR race is better than the hours that precede it. After a four-car crash with less than ten laps to go, the field started up after caution with just three laps to race. The top five cars in order were Mark Martin, Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle, David Gilliland and Elliott Sadler. Mark Martin did a great job sticking to the bottom yellow line and holding off the field for about a lap and a half, but got loose enough at the end for a charging Kevin Harvick to make a move. It was a photo finish at the end, with Kevin Harvick edging out Mark Martin by a nose to become the winner of this year's Daytona 500.

Some are suggesting that it was a conspiracy, especially after the sudden change in the rules at the last minute.
