Corvette Racing announces driver lineup

CORVETTE RACING ANNOUNCES 2007 DRIVER LINEUP

Jan Magnussen and Johnny O'Connell will drive the No. 3 factory Corvette for the full 2007 season with Ron Fellows joining at the endurance events.

There will be familiar faces in different places when Corvette Racing returns to the American Le Mans Series in 2007 to defend its drivers, team and manufacturers championships. Corvette Racing officials have announced a revised driver lineup for the two-car Chevrolet factory team.

Johnny O'Connell and Jan Magnussen, former teammates in the factory Panoz prototype effort, will drive the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R in all Series events. They will be joined by Ron Fellows for three endurance races (Sebring, Le Mans and Petit Le Mans) as Fellows takes on new roles and responsibilities with GM Racing. Defending GT1 champions Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta will drive the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R, teamed with Max Papis in the three endurance events....

...Fellows will attend all Series events, serving as Corvette ambassador and providing technical input to the team's engineers and drivers. In addition to driving in endurance events, he will compete in the Grand Prix of Mosport, the ninth round of the Series, at Mosport International Raceway on Aug. 26, 2007. Fellows will appear at key Corvette marketing events and shows as his schedule allows, assist in driver development for a variety of GM road racing programs, continue to drive for Team Cadillac in selected SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT races, and compete in several NASCAR events.

Re: Ron Fellows replaced... Corvette Racing announces driver lineup

He wasn't really replaced, all they did was move drivers around. Fellows has been thinking about retirement the past several seasons now, he's just phasing out slowly. He has a 33% chance of winning the upcoming race at Sebring as well. Corvette are 2 of the 3 entries in their class, they've literally run their competition out of the sport.

What happened to the Aston Martins? Are they taking a breather while the parent companys future is sorted out with Ford?

Honestly, this isn't really news. Fellows is not being replaced, he will just drive in selected races.

There could be no better GM Motorsport ambassador than Ron Fellows. In addition, he will still be busy racing endurance,World Challenge, Nascar road courses, and perhaps even some Speed GT races.

Sorry guys... title was not meant to be negative. And yes, as expected. Just wanted to draw attention to the article's main focus... Ron's changing role in GM Racing.

Don't worry, they'll continue to change the rules until it will be impossible for the Corvettes to win. Then Aston Martin will have it's day in the sun.

Jan Magnussen. Perhaps the "smoothest" driver out there. If you get a chance, watch his hands on the wheel during a race. My favorite driver.

The C6.R is a great car, but you've got to admit that a large part of its success is due to the fact that GM has collected an awesome stable of drivers.

People need to stop attention whoring with this completely misleading titles. Come on mods, don't send something with such a BS title to the ticker.

Truely awesome indeed. And they tend to hang onto them too.

Very well... I guess I didn't imagine people would take it that way.
